How did you pick your first dance song for your wedding and what was it?

Or even how did you get a song that is 'Your Song'?

This is proving the most difficult part of wedding planning!

Hey OP, this is in the Covid section so you might not get many replies 😁

We have a joint favourite band (local heroes!) - they’re alternative but did a cover of a love song a while back which we have both really loved for years. It was a no brainer to pick it for our first dance. I had a few other close contenders that we will use at other points in the day, during the ceremony etc. One will be Sigur Ros, to remind us of an amazing holiday we had in Iceland. Another is a Beatles song we heard played acoustically on a trip to Italy that we’ve always remembered since that moment. Something in my brain connects music with important memories so it was quite easy for me to pick some.

I hope you find something good. Maybe you could say what music you’re in to and people might have suggestions.

The idea behind a first dance is mainly to get people onto the dance floor but my friends got straight up when the music started so we never had one and no one ever noticed. To this day people don't believe us that we didn't have one, they are certain they can remember it.

I don't have a specific type, I love all kinds of music from Little Mix to Staind and everything in-between.

Song length! We aren't dancers and we didn't want to be awkwardly shuffling around the dance floor in front of everyone for ages.

I picked my favourite singer (Sting) and then chose a song by him that was easy to dance to slowly without much skill as neither of us are creative dancers - which was Fields of Gold.

Neither of us are slowdance people and we were cringing at the idea of dancing in front of everyone. So we asked our band to learn You Never Can Tell and did the dance from Pulp Fiction, and people joined us on the dance floor pretty quickly, thank god!

Song length is an excellent point. We love to dance after a few rums but we are certainly not skilled and usually it's just in amongst everyone else, not being watched from all angles!
