Have you got an online account? I haven’t phoned them for years because all my queries can be dealt with online. Highly recommend it!

Yes try online chat. Or wait until March? I would guess the extension of the self assessment deadline has probably just pushed some of the rush of people leaving it to the last minute from Jan to Feb.

Just don't write to them. One department told us they had a 45 week backlog...!

When I worked in Finance, my colleagues and I kept a copy of War and Peace on a shelf in our office. Reaching for it was the unspoken signal that somebody was about to phone HMRC.

Second trying online chat, DP managed to get his issue sorted pretty quickly last week.

Pretty sure the online chats have been scrapped. They are saying it's a temporary 3 month thing, but I'm not so sure.
