I look gross

ColonelHaiti · 14/02/2022 06:22

I'm 10 stone 5lb. I've got a double chin and fat stumpy legs. I see pictures and I just look awful. Been doing legs bums and tums in the gym for weeks with no difference to mu body. Clothes look awful.

Are you looking to loose weight? Are you in a calorie deficit?

Just doing exercise isnt good enough for real body change. You need to manage your diet and put yourself into a proper calorie deficit. So not just 'eating healthily', but working out your daily expenditure and eating calories under that.

AlDanvers · 14/02/2022 06:33

How often do you do legs, bums and tums and how have you changed your eating? Are usually doing any other exercise?

ClariceQuiff · 14/02/2022 06:41

Is 10 st 5 overweight for your height? If you're a healthy weight already, you will find your body is slow to change, but the exercise you're doing will tone you up if you keep at it.

I'm not too sure that MBT is an intensive exercise class, although it's probably good for generally improving your fitness. You need to go on to a calorie deficit first and foremost, then combine that with HiiT. What does your current average daily consumption of meals/snacks look like?

BocolateChiscuits · 14/02/2022 07:53

You don't look gross. Your body is storing a bit more fat than it needs to be healthy, but you can still be very healthy, it's not an unusual amount, it's not something to judge yourself or anyone else on, it's definitely not disgusting or gross. It's your body's natural adaptation to keep it safe when food is next scarce, and it probably kept your ancestors alive through many a hard time. You are not a decorative ornament who owes the world its place by being pleasing to the eye, you are a person.

Keep at the exercise, your body will be getting stronger and fitter all the time. Try to eat stuff that makes you feel good, listen to your body, and if you can't hear it you can almost never go wrong by eating more fruit and veg. Do this because it's a blessing to have a working body, and you want to look after it - you will almost certainly succeed in making your body happier. Forget about the fat thing.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 14/02/2022 08:03

I bet you don’t look ‘gross’. But just not how you would like, yet.

Great that you have been going to the gym regularly.

Add in some cardio work: cross trainer, rowing machine, stairs, whatever, or go to a HIIT or spin class, or even a really brisk long walk.

Eat fewer calories, fill up on veg, lean chicken and lentil soup if hungry.

Wear the clothes that flatter you best, get a great hair do, and be chuffed with yourself for the efforts you are making.

gunnersgold · 14/02/2022 08:15

I'm 5 foot and a similar weight and I don't look gross . I'm hourglass and wear clothes that suit me . I'm always being told I look lovely because I make an effort and work with what I've got . I'm a size 8-10 so I don't know that you actually look gross .
Admittedly I'm don't look how I did in my 20's but I'm going on 50 so it's ok.
Wearing clothes that suit you will make the world of difference .

ColonelHaiti · 14/02/2022 10:27

Im 5 foot 3. I was always 9 stone but since hitting 35 I've ballooned. I'm doing LBT twice a week I do that class because its one of the only ones I can do round work and childcare. I can run fast but I hate itBlush

inheritancetrack · 14/02/2022 10:34

Sadly it's what you eat is far more important than exercise when it comes to losing weight. To be healthier you need to combine the two.

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/02/2022 10:53

You do not look gross

You might be heavily than you want, but you aren’t vastly overweight, even if you are short.

Exercise is great but you need a calorie deficit to loose weight… but MORE IMPORTANTLY tackle where your head is at

See I'm 3 inches taller but look crap at this weight! I need to be under 10 stone!

I'm 5'3 and 12 stone after having a baby. I also look terrible but apparently I'm lacking the motivation to do anything about it Confused

ColonelHaiti · 14/02/2022 16:08

It's so hard when you have a baby or young children though isn't it? You're probably doing enough

OP posts:
Letsallscreamatthesistene · 14/02/2022 16:15

Ok im going to be really honest and blunt here. I have a young child and I managed to overhaul my diet. Ive lost 3kgs since the start of Jan. Having a young child makes it harder but not impossible.

Having a pity party and saying 'oh its so hard, we're doing enough' is rubbish and wont get you anywhere.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 14/02/2022 16:15

Ill add here to that my son is 23 months and DEMANDING

DamnShesaSexyChick · 14/02/2022 16:18

It is hard but at least you are doing something about it instead of sitting around getting heavier and heavier.

littlemamawithoutthedrama · 14/02/2022 16:19

Aww hunny we are always so critical of ourselves- I bet everyone else thinks you look fabulous and don't even notice your 'flaws' ! If trying to lose weight - Have you tried intermittent fasting? I love it really controls my binge eating .

gunnersgold · 14/02/2022 16:27

@ColonelHaiti I look better at 9 stone but I don't look gross and I'm sure you don't either . It's hard not compare yourself to your younger self but I lost 2 friends quite quickly in their mud 40's and it gave me a whole new perspective. Ageing is a privilege . ✅

Franticbutterfly · 14/02/2022 16:45

I'm sure you look fine.

Susu49 · 14/02/2022 16:50

I agree with pp that you don't look gross. So you've put on some weight - we all have. I know I feel rubbish about it and dislike my figure at present, and it's definitely harder to lose in 30s than 20s.

But your self image is much much worse than other people's perceptions of you.

I'm finding little habits done consistently make a difference too. So in addition to workout classes, I do things like no snacking, nutritious meals, fasting over night...Fitting in a 10 minute walk when I can etc

I don't beat myself up if I fall of the wagon for a day or two, or even a week or two. Just get back up and start again.

Also - take a look at the body project on YouTube.

And be much, much nicer to yourself Flowers

ClariceQuiff · 14/02/2022 16:54

At 5.3 your BMI is 25.7 so barely into the 'overweight' category. This might well be a stone or so over your personal ideal weight - BMI accounts for different frames - but by no stretch of the imagination could you possibly be 'gross'.

Carry on exercising and make sure your diet is healthy, but don't worry about your weight in the meantime because it's fine and I'm sure you look great to everybody but yourself.

ColonelHaiti · 14/02/2022 17:00

I went on a 5k run today. I don't like running but it's the only thing that slims my legs. I tend to carry weight on bum and legs but it's a crept up to my abdomen! Thanks for the advice. I'm really going to try with regards to snacking thats my downfall

OP posts:
dogaibu · 14/02/2022 21:54

If it makes you feel better I'm 5'3 and over 12st I'd love to be 10st 5. I don't think I look gross though. I think you need to work more on your self image than your weight

Rewritethestars1 · 14/02/2022 22:05

I'm the same height and weight 10st 3lbs. I feel exactly the same as you. I'm constantly trying to eat well but with 2 non sleeping children its so hard. It does feel like an excuse but lack of sleep does impact weight. I found losing weight after 1 baby easy and was back to a size 6 but I was in my 20s. Now I'm in my 30s and had another baby, my metabolism has slowed etc its sooooo much harder.

Your not gross by the way. I have literally never ever in my life looked at another human being and thought they looked gross. I always see the beauty in people no matter what their size, shape or anything else. I don't care a jot what people look like. Wish I could afford myself the same.

tootiredtospeak · 14/02/2022 22:19

I am 45 was 7 and a half stone until I was 25 had 3 kids ended up at 11 and a half stone and now finally back to 10 stone. I dont want to lose anymore as it ages you. I am also 5 3. I dont think it's too bad a weight really I am a healthy BMI now. I think it's more about how you see yourself than the actual weight.
