How do you wind down?

I'm feeling really wound up. I have had a lot on my plate, we've all been down with Covid in the last 6 weeks, work has been very tricky, applying for a few jobs and it's all just very relentless. I know my hormones are all over the place and I suppose I have constant low-level anxiety.

I've just been working, dealing with sick family members and getting over Covid. I feel depleted! There has been no break.

What do you do to find a sense of calm? I'll try almost anything!

Netflix series.
It’s the ultimate distraction.

PurpleDaisies · 13/02/2022 20:33

Exercise really helps me. Either something really sweaty and out of breath or yoga.

I like running loud music, or walking with a podcast.

A book and a hot chocolate is always good.

A nice bath
A subtled box set so I can’t go on my phone at the same time.
A trip to the cinema
Meeting a friend.

I find going for a walk, getting some fresh air always helps.
Knitting is good for relieving stress and is recommended to soldiers with PTSD.
If time and energy are short I lie on my bed and breathe in for 4 counts, hold it for 7 and breathe out for 8. Repeat half a dozen or so times.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 13/02/2022 20:55

Masturbation.

Walking in sunshine. Couch time makes me worse.
Yoga.
A swim, but if I'm too keyed up the hassle of hair drying etc is too much.

Steam eye mask (eBay might be cheaper)
You are forced to do nothing until it's cooled down!

Swimming, reading, gin.

User48751490 · 13/02/2022 22:10

Playing piano and masturbation (not at the same time though!).

@Easterbunnyiswindowshopping he certainly doesn't need any tips on how to wind down does he💞😂

I agree that knitting does it for me, something gentle on the TV and wine. I need more than one thing at once to stop my mind going places I don't want in order to destress....... And mumsnet is very useful when I can't sleep💐

Thank you, just reading through these creates a bit of a sense of peace. @Easterbunnyiswindowshopping's dog and sofa beat the cosy factor though. Grin at the slightly unexpected pleasure yourself suggestions but fair play.

I'm still feeling riled up, I know it's because I'm too busy to go for a walk, still not 100% recovered from Covid and work is super pressure.

I just find that when I have no time to myself, I get socially anxious and have very little patience for people contact.

I play Bach Partitas on my cello. Or something similar which needs intricate phrasing.
