Hand hold in A&E

Dd (4) has been poorly all week with stomach pain and fever. GP saw her today and said she needed to go straight to A&E, they have decided to admit her but are sooo busy we are just waiting in A&e for a bed to become available.
Worrying about DD and also trying to pass the time that seems to be going so slowly!

A so pain in children - appendicitis; mesenterio adonitis (inflammation of the lymph nodes in the gut - presents extremely similarly to appendicitis but only distinguishable when they operate and find appendix isn’t inflamed); gastroenteritis - but usually has other symptoms; gastritis - but usually not as low in the gut as other conditions; constipation - not the greatest diagnosis because it takes time and meds to resolve but doesn’t generally require surgery just medications.

*Abdo pain - not ‘a so pain’ (stupid autocorrect and fat fingers on a Saturday night!!)

*mesenteric adonitis - so many typo’s.

Oh dear OP that's so scary for you. What are the medics saying? Do they have any idea what it might be? 💐

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 11/02/2022 20:46

What do they think it might be. Thinking of you both. Hope she's ok

Oh hope all resolved soon op.

Wagsandclaws · 11/02/2022 21:08

Ah op I hope she gets a bed soon.

It's worrying but you are in the right place.

I pray you get some answers soon Thanks

Thanks everyone. Finally got her on to a bed in the ward so she is having a little nap.

They haven't said what they think it could be. She has been sick a couple of times but has really bad stomach pains, she's also got a fever and can't keep any fluids down as food and drink seem to bring on the stomach pain and then she vomits. They don't think it is a sickness bug as the bouts of sickness have been too far apart and going on too long. They have ruled out appendicitis as they asked her to jump and she could which apparently is a sure sign it's not the appendix. Just got to wait for the drs to come round now so we can get an idea of what's going on!

SquigglePigs · 11/02/2022 21:23

Bless, how are things this morning?

This sounds like when my DD used to get tonsillitis, she would also get mesenteric adenitis which would bother her more than the tonsils.

I really hope you've both had some sleep and she's feeling brighter, and you find out what's going on soon

We got discharged at about 3am they said it was masenteric adenitis. She was getting really upset about all the blood sugar tests and constant poking and prodding so they said I can bring her home and have given her open access to the ward all weekend. They are mainly just concerned about dehydration so we've been sent home with lots of dioralyte and we've got to just keep giving small syringes of it every 5 mins. Thanks for checking in!

Thanks for update.
Google says the condition usually resolves itself -- hope that's perfectly true for you, too!

Mo1911 · 13/02/2022 13:47

That's a sore thing, poor wee soul. Hope she's doing ok, and you if course!!
