Worried about flights!

So we have just booked a first family holiday. 2 adults 4 kids to malaga for July. Got a good deal I was happy. Flights are with a Spanish company called vueling. But I have just looked them up and they have really bad reviews about over booking and cancelling! Has anyone else used them abd been OK?

I called lastminute.com to see if I could cancel as just seen similar flights with easy jet with a slight price difference. But they told me they are non refundable. We only booked 3 days ago so I thought there would be a 14 day policy but apparently not and now feel very stupid!

I’ve flown with Vueling loads and it’s always been fine.

Didioverstep · 11/02/2022 20:10

Ok thank you! Hopefully we will be OK. I booked somewhere to stay separately so I didn't want a problem! If they cancel I should imagine it would be difficult to get alternative flights at last minute for 6 people!

Vueling are the low cost airline of Iberia as part of the IAG group which includes Aer Lingus and British Airways

@Didioverstep

“ I have just looked them up and they have really bad reviews about over booking and cancelling”

What was the date of the reviews you’ve been reading?

I ask because I know they gained a reputation quite a few years back for being a bit keen on cancellations etc.

However I believe following changes (some involving senior personnel) their performance had very much improved.over the last few years.

They where from January Confused however a lot where related to covid too. Maybe I'm just being a bit silly

Enjoy your holiday Smile

OK…as you say, that sounds like something Covid related and TBF plenty of airlines, not just Vueling have had to re-jig flights etc as national regulations have changed.

FWIW if “bumped “ due over booking in theory it should be down to the airline to organize alternative flights…

Didioverstep · 11/02/2022 20:24

Ok. Thank you! We have waited years for this holiday! Trust me to cock it up!

I would recommend you check in as soon as it opens. We got caught with an overbooked flight in October coming home from majorca. Think it was Ryanair. Didn't realise that everyone oversold seats and was horrified. They managed to eventually get us on as some people didn't turn up even though they'd checked in. But it was stressful waiting to find out.

Campervan69 · 11/02/2022 20:27

If they couldn't get us on that flight we would have hit compensation, a hotel for the night and booked on the next available flight apparently.

notimagain · 11/02/2022 20:33

@Campervan69

“ Didn't realise that everyone oversold seats and was horrified.”

Yep, all or almost all airlines do it and it’s done properly there’s quite a lot of statistical analysis involved to get the amount of overbooking correct…

“They managed to eventually get us on as some people didn't turn up even though they'd checked in.”

That’s exactly how it should work if the analysis has been done properly.

Didioverstep · 11/02/2022 20:39

Ok. Thanks all. I don't mind being late home ! Lol just not late there!

I’ve only ever heard positive things about vueling. DS has flown with them and never had an issue. Though they were about to kick him off the flight last time he flew with them because he didn’t have the right paper mask. He’d bought masks in the airport but apparently they weren’t right for vueling (this was last summer however).

Didioverstep · 11/02/2022 20:46

Ah ok thanks for that! I will check on masks. Sounds silly I know but I'm not an experienced flyer! Haven't really been on holiday apart from visiting dhs family. And that flight was a nightmare. We didn't realised when we booked our flights we where put on seoerate flights. Still don't know how that happened I was 6.5 months pregnant and stupidly left my purse with dh and didn't bring my phone on his insistence as he was worried about it being stolen. So we got separated and I couldn't buy a visa and he thought I had gone through passport control so went on ahead. I got stuck in airport no man's land without a visa. After a lot of pleading they let him hand over a £20 note Iver border control. I was a bit hormonal mess and haven't flown since. I had a an awful flight in the old rickety plane that kickstarted very intense braxton hicks. He got the new plane and everything was smooth.Hmm it has put the fear in me!!
