It's on AGAIN! What is the point of it? I want to see people falling down on the ice not sweeping it.

I think it's been described as chess on ice. I'm sure it's very skillful but it's not the sort of spectator sport I can get on board with I'm afraid.

Sexnotgender · 10/02/2022 13:23

I’ve played at very basic level. It’s really fun and I enjoy watching it.

Now cross country skiing, what the fuck is that!

Crowdfundingforcake · 10/02/2022 13:25

It's like lawn bowls on ice - mesmerised by it here. Slightly disappointed that they're not shouting 'sweep, sweep' at the tops of their voices.

We're learning a lot from the Winter Olympics, especially the new sports like aerial skiing - the science that goes into it is incredible.

And the thighs on the speed skaters........

Curling wouldn't normally be my choice of sport to watch ,but I know someone in one of the teams.

AdoptedBumpkin · 10/02/2022 13:34

I kind of like it, at least to have on in the background.

itwasntaparty · 10/02/2022 13:34

It's great fun to play but not to watch its like bloody test match cricket. I don't have a huge amount of patience though!

devildeepbluesea · 10/02/2022 13:36

Really surprised by this, I love watching it!
But then I’ll watch most sports. I think the tactics are fascinating.

MrWhippyBloon · 10/02/2022 13:37

I love it. But then I also love test match cricket. It's simultaneously soothing and exciting.

horseymum · 10/02/2022 13:39

Like many sports, the last 20 minutes are usually the most gripping, you can skip the previous two hours.

AffIt · 10/02/2022 13:41

I LOVE watching curling, in the same way I love watching snooker - I know damn all about either, but I find them both oddly soporific.

I actually gave it a shot a few years ago, and it is A LOT more difficult than it looks.

averythinline · 10/02/2022 13:46

Also love it and also love cricket...wonder if that's a Venn diagram waiting to happen.. winter Olympics is so much fun....all stuff I'll never do ...hate cold/don't like heights/ complete scary cat and no spatial awareness.. .. it blows me away an alien world ...

It’s very skilful, having played a bit I can definitely appreciate the amazing players in the Olympics.

I like curling, test cricket and snooker.
I'm not an sports action junkie. Obviously.

The ski jumping with tricks looks amazing but makes me feel slightly ill watching it.

thereisonlyoneofme · 10/02/2022 16:42

How is the curling scored, I thought each end would be a point, but sometimes there are 8 ends and there are 11 points between the two teams ! Anyone know.

It’s dependent on who has more stones closest to the centre of the house.

Then why not just play chess on ice? Confused

I don't get it either!
