Morning all, not really sure why I’m posting this but it moved me to tears this morning and thought others might appreciate it - part of a series the guardian is running about “living in a woman’s body”

That is really lovely.

But knowing the Graun, they'll feature a bloke next. Mark my words.

MissyB1 · 10/02/2022 08:03

Beautiful and thought provoking.

KittenKong · 10/02/2022 08:07

Emma Thompson the actor?

Iorderedyouapancake · 10/02/2022 08:08

@KittenKong- yes, although she’s also a writer (I think she won an Oscar for writing the screenplay for sense and sensibility, although I might have imagined it!)

Lovely, but do I need to add "enlarged fanny" to the pitfalls of growing old?! 🙀

BeyondMyWits · 10/02/2022 08:18

That is beautiful, thank you for pointing it out.

Grasping · 10/02/2022 08:18

That sums up my world

ButterMeTimbers · 10/02/2022 08:19

This made me cry a bit. I don't have children and it made me think how I have to be the very last in a long, unbroken chain of mothers and daughters (as we all must be).

A line that ends here.

lljkk · 10/02/2022 08:27

That's quite an honest relationship!

Sunnysidegold · 10/02/2022 08:43

Thanks op for sharing this. It is really lovely.

PlatinumBrunette · 10/02/2022 08:44

Oh god, I got to this “ and me, standing in the doorway, held between the two states of departure.” and now I’m in floods.
Thank you for sharing,.

Andariego · 10/02/2022 08:49

That is really lovely, thanks for sharing Smile

doodleygirl · 10/02/2022 08:51

This resonates so much, Emma Thompson has put into words exactly how I feel.

Iorderedyouapancake · 10/02/2022 08:56

Oh dear platinum, re-reading that line has set me off again now! Better pull myself together for my work call in 5 mins…

PerseverancePays · 10/02/2022 23:07

I really enjoyed it too. A lovely piece of writing celebrating mothers and daughters.

StuckonXero · 11/02/2022 00:10

Loved this, she captures it so well.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 11/02/2022 00:15

@EishetChayil

That is really lovely.

But knowing the Graun, they'll feature a bloke next. Mark my words.

Exactly what I thought.
SleepingStandingUp · 11/02/2022 00:15

That's lovely but it makes me sad for my mitochondrial DNA, passed down from mother to daughter generation after generation and now dead-ended with me and my boys.

Flamingoose · 11/02/2022 00:24

I absolutely loved it, especially the way she describes her teenage daughter. So relatable and put into words perfectly.
