People infiltrating themselves into vulnerable people’s lives for financial gain

I can’t write loads as I don’t have time - will write later.

We have a very elderly relative who has apparently given power of attorney to a tradesperson he has become very friendly with - and maybe also willed their home to them.

His neighbours are all very concerned. This person has apparently infiltrated his way into his life.

We are only at the finding out stages - I am posting to ask if you have experience of this kind of thing and what steps you followed to potentially be able to help the vulnerable person.

Who s to say that, was the tradesperson, intention ? Not saying it's not possible, but he could of just become friends and it went from there ?

Call Social Services. They have people to deal with the financial abuse of older people.

Yes we don’t know yet.

There is one report that paramedics made to the police about it though, following our relative telling them that he wasn’t happy about the situation. But the police didn’t follow it up.

Otherwise he would apparently seem to be very taken with the friendship.
