Freezing Certain Foods

Does anyone else get frustrated when foods don’t say on the label if they are suitable to freeze or not? I bought a packaged beef joint with a wild garlic marinade already on it but didn’t use it when I intended to so put it in the freezer. Then I started to doubt whether it was suitable. Pretty sure it will cook fine once it’s defrosted but wouldn’t it be so much easier for manufacturers to label food & let the consumer know if freezing is the way to go?

Have to say it's never occurred to me to wonder. Most of the meat I buy has the freezer symbol on it.

And I seem to remember the hearts used to say not suitable, presumably because they'd been frozen once already, but I froze them anyway Grin

Was this a supermarket own or a special fancy brand?

Tescos own

Actually, no, not really. It never really occurred to me either. I don't even look at it if it has freezing symbol or not.
There's way to freeze meat in marinade, so I would assume it's fine.

I can’t say I would expect meat to be labelled? It’s flesh - it’s obviously going to have a slightly different texture if frozen and thawed, which will affect its cooking times. I can’t see how Tesco could or should advise you about all the variables of that, it’s just common sense?

I freeze everything and anything. Some things texture is impaired (milk, cream, cheese), but not it’s taste. It still works fine in a sauce 🙃

The only thing I categorically think you cannot freeze are fresh herbs. Disaster

I don’t think I’ve ever looked at a label to check it’s ok to be frozen, I just freeze stuff that needs it

I wouldn’t freeze something like a whole lettuce but most stuff is fair game. Worst that happens is it’s a bit lower quality when it defrosts
