Tips on 'selling yourself'?

I've got to write a bio for a work thing, but find it really hard to do things like that and to sell myself. Any tips?

Have you had a look at other people’s in similar roles in other companies? I’d just take bits and pieces from others (obviously changing details so that it’s factual to your experience) until you’ve cobbled your own together.

Ask your friends about the best things about you. They will see things you don't see yourself.

Talk about skills and qualities needed.

I had to do something similar last year when redundancies were being considered. I looked at my good points and put positive attitude, good timekeeper, completely trustworthy and also things like welcoming, going the extra mile which are constantly put across in training. Named a couple of examples of how I'd brought training into the workplace and it had been beneficial. I'm in a basic role, but hopefully it gives you somewhere to start.

Is this for a bio eg. for speaking at a conference?

A format that could work is the below - this is what I used and it made it easier as it was filling in the blanks rather than blowing smoke up my arse if you know what I mean. Happy to PM you the actual bio if you think it would help…

Poetry started her career… (first steps, uni/qualifications if relevant, major moves before current employer)

Poetry joined (current company) in (year) as (title if different from current role) and {was promoted to… in…} and has {run dept/headed up project/whatever you do} with (strength) and (strength), particularly impressing with (achievement) and (achievement).

Currently {any interesting thing you’re doing at the moment} Poetry says {“I have the best job in the world/I’m grateful for this opportunity/I’m looking forward to doing whatever this bio is for}
