What sorts of things are you and DC interested in and like doing?

The free museums, obviously - the big name ones such as the Science Museum, the V&A, the Natural History Museum and the British Museum. Also the permanent (free) exhibition Treasures of the British Library, and just down the road from it the Wellcome Collection. And close to those are the various UCL museums

Wandering round Whitehall, Trafalgar Square, St James Park, Buckingham Palace, Green Park, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens (pop in to Harrods and Harvey Nick?)

You could get the Thames Clipper from Tate to Tate (see all the interesting bits of central London from the water, at ordinary travel rate, not tourist boat prices) and then either wander back along the South Bank or go on towards Tower Bridge and the Tower of London (not free, but big/interesting enough to be worth the entry fee) or get the Clipper on to Greenwich (Cutty Sark, market, Maritime Museum and Royal Observatory)

You can get guidebooks with walking tours of the City, and the Bank of England Museum is worth a visit (free IIRC)

This is a useful list. Not all budget friendly but lots of ideas.

Graffiti tunnel under Waterloo station, book sky garden for view, old spitalfields market for street food as opposed to Camden which is a bit touristy, bubble tea in china town, Brixton market

Look for cinemas with reduced price screenings during the week.

Lovely walks in parks/along river or canal if the weather forecast is good. Take a flask of hot chocolate and a snack from home.

Have a look round Harrods and then you can walk through Hyde Park to Kensington Palace.

Also Borough market and the South Bank are nice to wander around.

We are a very unartistic family but Tate Modern was a surprise hit with us all.

Greenwich is lovely and lots to see and do.

Also, the No12 bus from south of the river up to Oxford Circus takes in a lot of the major sights!

Do you live in London and are looking for ideas/events to go to etc? Or are you+kids visiting for the week as tourists?
