Someone who takes someone else away (fiction writing)

I'm a wannabe writer but I'm a bit stuck on a word.
The story is set in a kind of afterlife (in between earth and heaven/hell/whatever) a 'purgatory' of sorts. There are job roles in this afterlife - characters who allow you to view your love ones left behind, characters who allow you to contact those left behind (channelers and connecters) etc but I have no job title for the character who comes and delivers you from this place to the next, any ideas?

Also very sorry for awful description, I promise it's better than it sounds!

I play a game called Spirit Farer where the object of the game is to transport spirits to the afterlife.

So, farer?

One of those skaters, incidentally, April Corley was shot at by the Egyptian military when on holiday. Twelve tourists including her boyfriend died and she had life-changing injuries. Heartbreaking.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Matter_of_Life_and_Death_(film) had a conductor.

"Peter should have died at that point, but Conductor 71, the guide sent to escort him to the Other World, misses him in the thick fog over the English Channel."

Derailing thread to say if you are writing you are a writer- not a wannabe one! Best of luck and enjoy OP!!!

Thank you everyone these are great, and loads of interesting points made too. I didn't mean for them all to begin with a C but the other (unrelated) role is Councillor! I like them all and still not totally decided!

Special thanks to @stayathomer for calling me a writer
