Bunk beds for teens?

Can anyone recommend bunk beds that will take the weight of 2 teenage boys? Ideally one that does not cost a fortune as my budget is very tight.

We have a very small second bedroom, so the trio bunk bed that I wanted will not fit.

I’ve looked at bunk beds in Ikea, Argos, Amazon etc but they all say that the maximum weight is 200lbs so definitely aimed for young children.

My boys are 11 and 13 if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

Argos have heavy duty bunk beds which are suitable for up to 100kg per bed. That’s almost 16 stone per bed and the description says they are suitable for adult use. We will be getting some for my stepsons later this year as their metal bunks are getting increasingly squeaky as they are getting older.

I’ve just looked and IKEA seems to be 200kg for the metal bunk beds? I had them and they are very sturdy.

Just make sure the person in the bottom bunk has enough room to sit up. It was very annoying as a child / teenager not being able to do so. I had a permanent crick in my neck.

How big are your boys and what's the budget?

HarleyQuinnFan · 06/02/2022 08:27

Both boys are quite stocky and heavy. Eldest wants top bunk.

My budget is around £170. I don’t need mattresses tho just the bunk bed frame.

I can’t find the weight limits on the ikea ones. Will have another look later.

We have the argos/habitat detachable bunk bed which states is suitable for adult use. Can’t say whether it’s good for teenagers though as my boys are only 5 and 8 at the mo x

We had a high sleeper from strictly beds and bunks and they do strong bunk beds. You can put a proper mattress on, not one of those crappy foam ikea jobs. Just make sure your teens head doesn't bang against the ceiling when they sit up!
