Would you give the council tax rebate to your landlord?

I rent an apartment. It's an inclusive amount per month that includes bills. I just pay council tax on top.

If I receive the council tax rebate that's meant to help with the increased fuel charge, should I give it to my landlord? My intention is to immediately offer it to them in advance now in the spirit of goodwill.

For context, the landlord is planning to put the rent up by interest rate increase only (which is still quite a bit!). I am hoping my offer will stop them wanting to charge extra for the increased utilities on top.

WWYD?

Keep the money. It's your rebate.

FFSFFSFFS · 03/02/2022 20:52

No I would not and as a landlord I would not expect my tenants too

XenoBitch · 03/02/2022 20:55

No. I seriously doubt that any landlord would ever pass any rebate or discounts onto their tenants.

You pay the council tax so it’s your money! Don’t give away your money unnecessarily

SantaHat · 03/02/2022 20:56

Why on earth would you give it to the landlord? You pay the council tax, it’s your rebate.

Hospedia · 03/02/2022 20:56

Fuck no! You paid the council tax, that's your rebate.

DerAlteMann · 03/02/2022 20:57

Of course not. The LL does not pay the council tax, why should they get the rebate?

LonelySock · 03/02/2022 20:58

Okay 😁

I just thought as it's linked to the fuel increase, I ought to offer.

What I absolutely don't want is for my landlord to start separating out utilities as they'll still charge over market rate for the place and I'd be paying a ton more.
