Dropped my 4 year old at nursery this morning as usual. I heard a member of staff (couldn't see her but she wasn't one of the usual teachers) say 'good morning DS, how are you?' To which he replied 'Morning, I'm good!' She then said 'Your always good aren't you? Do you ever feel sad?' I found this really quite a strange thing to ask my son as he walked through the door. He hadn't even taken his coat off yet! What was she wanting him to reply to that? Am I over thinking this?

Definitely overthinking

Overthinking, she was passing the time of day.

Thanks for the replies. Glad you both said I'm overthinking it! I'm a born worried unfortunately, so something like this plays on my mind.

So your kid is generally happy, light of mood, brings other people joy, and you see this as, what? An insult? Some kind of reflection on your parenting?

100% overthinking.

It was how she asked him if he ever feels sad that I found a bit strange.

I do not see why she would ask a question like that. It does seem a bit strange. Sometimes people just say things without really thinking.

The sooner we introduce the idea that acknowledging bad days as well as good, the better this country will be.
