Ridiculous situation with DS1's GF

Obviously I have to bite my tongue when talking to him, but red flags everywhere or I'm being unfair? I haven't and won't say any of this to him.

-GF is away studying at a private college, several hours away from home.
-GF is being sexually harrassed and threatened by another student
-College are considering removing other student from course
-Meantime they have moved GF to different accommodation, remote from all other students, with no WiFi or mobile signal and told her to stay away from the rest of the group. The group have been told to stay away from her.
-One fellow (male) student is staying with her in her new accommodation for safety
-she is still getting threatening messages and crying with fear when she is able to contact DS
-she's refusing to tell her parents

DS is sobbing his heart out because he's so worried for her and just wants to go and get her. She says she wants to come home but also wants to wait and see if things can be resolved so she can stay on the course.

Obviously, if things are as DS is being told, it's an absolutely appalling situation, is it just me who thinks it seems unlikely though?

Yeah this smells of bullshit a mile off.

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 02/02/2022 18:03

Seems v v strange

ThreeRingCircus · 02/02/2022 18:05

It sounds mighty unlikely the way she's telling it, you are correct.

BowlofNothing · 02/02/2022 18:08

How is she getting threatening messages with no Wifi or phone signal? Why won't she tell her parents? Why have they moved her the not the student harassing her? Seems very odd to me.

DrPhilYourGuts · 02/02/2022 18:11

How old are your DS and GF?

peaceanddove · 02/02/2022 18:11

Crock. Of. Shit.

Satingreenshutters · 02/02/2022 18:11

Very very very odd.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 02/02/2022 18:34

It’s almost plausible but not the Wi-Fi or mobile signal it’s a standard with uni isn’t it as how is she to do her course work only at uni ? Nah something not quite adding up here .

Certainly has the odour of utter bullshit doesn't it

Email the university ask them forban outline of there procedures though just yo make sure

There is an element of truth (I think). DS has met the man when visiting, who does indeed sound like a scary character and DS has seen the messages and been threatened by him himself.

It's the way the colleges have dealt with it that seems unlikely to me.

I think she's lying through her teeth. It'll be such a hard lesson for her. Where on earth is she that there's no Wi-Fi or mobile connection? And why would they place her somewhere remote where that guy could assault her? It doesn't make sense.

HollowTalk · 02/02/2022 19:20

A hard lesson for him, I mean.

2bazookas · 02/02/2022 20:00

It's not a credible story so the most charitable interpretation is that she's having some kind of mental breakdown.
In that case her parents most definitely need to be told ASAP (don't worry about her permission).

Years ago DS was in a similar situation. I contacted the GF's parents myself ( we'd never met or spoken, but I found their number in my landline phone account records) . Her father's first words were "Oh god, NOT AGAIN". Turned out she had a history of mental illness.
