Breast biopsy - face to face appointment for results

A good friend of mine found a lump in her breast, went for a biopsy and got the results in a letter which basically said it’s nothing to worry about just hormonal. The same thing happened for a second lump she found.

She’s found a third lump and this time she has had a text to say she needs to go in for her results next Monday.

Her mind has jumped straight to worse case scenario, understandably.

I don’t know enough about it really to give her any words of reassurance so I thought I’d ask if anyone has been in a similar position and had a positive outcome?

Tbh I would think it better to get any test results face to face so you have a chance to ask questions so hopefully the previous results by letter had more to do with resourcing/COVID and they are just back to face to face now but that is the positive spin, I’m not surprised she is worried. Hope it is good news for her.

Maybe she needs some other treatment?

It might be ok. I had a biopsy. The doctor examined the lump at the same appointment and said she didn't think it was anything sinister. I was told I'd get my results by phone.

You can imagine the panic when a few days later I got an appointment letter through in the post. I rang the breast care nurse in a state and she told me over the phone that apparently biopsy results are not just cancer, or all fine as I'd thought. You can get results that are not cancer but need more investigation/treatment. In my case it was a further biopsy was needed under general anaesthetic which came back clear. The appointment may be to discuss something like that.

Must be a panic but could even be that after 3 biopsies a conversation needs to be had about advanced screening going forwards or another ultrasound to confirm test results etc. Flowers

@Breastfriend appreciate this is an old post - but what happened with your friend? My friends been called in for f2f results and she too is terrified.

Breastfriend · 15/10/2022 01:25

@bootswiththefur they just said it was hormonal in the end and it was nothing to worry about. She has had more lumps since and each time she’s got them checked and it’s been nothing to worry about.

I do hope you’re friend is okay!
