What did you make of the ending of afterlife ?

What I think happened was, tony killed himself, was briefly reunited with with wife
He was then bought back to life with cpr etc

Then after a while brandy died
But By that time tony was stronger and able to carry on
Then he died when his time was up
Naturally

Then they were all reunited

What was your take on the ending ?

RG has explained what he meant by it. Tony stayed single, let go of her being constantly by his side, his dog died, then he died.

I thought that he had finally accepted that Lisa was with him even though he was alive. After Brandy died he died too, i would like to think it was natural causes as he seemed to make peace with himself. Bear in mind Brandy was a young dog and we could have been looking at 10-12 years into the future.

I didn’t see it as any of them died as such as in just then, just the passing of time and things constantly evolving.

As RG explained (which I didn’t know until this thread but it was my understanding too), he stopped living in Lisa’s shadow eventually, the dog died then he died.

Great series, I’m sad it’s over.

I just watched the ending today. Laughed and cried in equal measure.

I thought it was about letting go of the past , seasons change , life goes on and eventually we all die

I was a sobbing mess at the end of the series. At first I thought he committed suicide, due to his depression. Then my view changed and I think the last scene showed the passing of time. He never remarried, Brandy passed away and Tony died of natural causes.

Such an emotional roller coaster of a series, but one which got many of us talking about a subject we often shy away from in our society.

Richard Gervais is a hugely talented actor, writer and director.

Didn’t the leaves in the park change colour to autumn?

He lived through the autumn of his life. His dog died as his wife did. But he walked on through the autumn until he died.

Yes the tree colours change from bright greens of summer to orange autumn
