Can I ask how much it cost? We have been quoted £800 for 19 year old ds. Is this a lot? Is there a way we could do it more cheaply?

We used Marmalade with my son.
Also I was told by my insurance company that when your child passes, and is comparing quotes, it is worthwhile adding an older family member to their policy as a named driver (obviously depending on their driving record!).
And under no circumstances should you take a policy in your name with your child as a named driver if they are going to be the main driver in their car. I think this is called ghosting and there is a possibility that your insurance company won't pay out in the event of a claim.

I'm in Ireland and I recently paid €1100 to add my 17 year old learner son to my car insurance.
I hope he passed his test before renewal.

Thank you all so much for your suggestions I'll go through them with dh tomorrow.

If they only have a provisional it shouldn’t impact your quote too much as they will only be driving with you in the car. It only cost me an extra £10 a year to add my neice.
That's what I was hoping for while he is learning!
Dd(22) is also learning she's just gone on to her boyfriends insurance it actually made his cheaper!
Both cars are biggish 1.6 I think.
Thanks again much appreciated 😀
