Best cheese?

Usually buy Davidstow , but felt like a change and tried Cathedral City cheddar. Found it a bit ordinary. Any recommendations? I know speciality cheese shops have great stuff, but where I live, it would probably need to be available in a supremarket.

Coleraine Irish Cheddar although I dunno if the mainland sells it?

Clawdy · 28/01/2022 16:20

Also like Tesco Coastal Cheddar

Sainsburys do Barbers cheddar, which is a deli staple and good value. It's a 'candy bar' cheddar - so has lactic crystals that give it a good tang and a bit of sweetness. It's also a good provenance rather than the huge dairy companies (Arla etc)

Black Bomber

nocoolnamesleft · 28/01/2022 18:11

Lancashire bomb. (Did you know that some speciality cheese shops/delis deliver nationwide?)

NormaLouiseBates · 28/01/2022 18:14

Marks and Spencer Cornish Cruncher. It's absolutely delicious!

AnotherMansCause · 28/01/2022 18:15

I suspect it's not what you meant, but delice de cremiers. I can't eat cheese any more & I really miss this one.

newtb · 28/01/2022 18:16

Cheshire for me, and since Brexit I can't get it in France (nor slim and save)

Maxifly · 28/01/2022 18:21

Black bomber. Good strong cheese. Tasty Lancashire, tangy and creamy.

Flowersandbread · 28/01/2022 18:23

I love Lincolnshire poacher cheddar, haven't had any for ages. Or a real good "bitey" red Leicester. And when I want something more mellow it's Old Amsterdam

Bellie99 · 28/01/2022 18:25

Barbers
Wyke
Godminster

Another vote for M&S Cornish Cruncher
I also like the Pilgrims choice extra vintage cheddar

This, if it’s a strong cheddar you’re after
Lemonweightloss · 28/01/2022 18:47

Another for Blackbomber.
Omg.

Phineyj · 28/01/2022 18:49

Black Bomber should probably be banned, it's so lovely. Hellloooo lockdown pounds.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 28/01/2022 18:52

@cardoon

I totally agree with you. It's an amazing cheddar that is only stocked by Tesco and it's very reasonable. If you like a mature salty cheddar I don't think you can improve on this one.
BlackboardMonitorVimes · 28/01/2022 18:53

However if you like a creamier mature cheddar, get some Godstones.

Clawdy · 28/01/2022 23:03

These sound great, gonna check them out.

Quicke's farmhouse cheddar. It's proper cheddar even if it is made in Devon

UserBotTrending · 28/01/2022 23:19

Cashel Blue - yum.
Had a nice apricot wensleydale from Aldi recently, it was lovely. I obviously like cheeses with taste.
