Dh started a new job this month. And should have been paid today. He hasn't so he checked his hr portal and the idiot has got 1 digit wrong on the sort code.
He's emailed hr and explained.
Anyone done anything similar and got it sorted quickly? What can we do about it?

It depends if the money has actually been paid into a wrong account or whether the bank rejected it.

If it was paid into someone's wrong account and it was your husband's error (he gave work the wrong account number) then unfortunately you have to rely on the person whose account it went into giving it back. I did this once when I paid a bill. It took several weeks.

If your husband gave his work the correct details and they got it wrong then its up to them to pay your dh and they try and get it back from the wrong account.

Agree with previous poster. Hopefully payment will have been rejectws because there would have to be someone else with exact same account number as your DH at a different bank branch which is fairly unlikely. I am a lawyer and once dealt with this exact situation. Sadly in that case there was another matching account and the recipient refused to repay the credit and we had to take legal proceedings to recover it. The key thing is to notify the sending and receiving bank as soon as possible. If the payment is still pending it may be possible to reverse it otherwise it’s a case of hoping the recipient will do the decent thing.

Thanks hopefully it will be rejected. Its gone to a bank in the channel Islands just to complicate things.
