Minecraft on Amazon fire

Hi all,
I have just purchased and downloaded Minecraft app from Amazon for my fire tablet. Do I have to subscribe to a 'realm' with monthly subscription fees or do I join a server to be able to play? Not for myself but my 6 year old son so want a safe platform for him to play on. Thanks in advance

I found it quite complicated to register but no, you can play it without a monthly subscription.

If you work out how he can play easily let me know, I couldn't work it out!

We tried joining a server but there is a warning that the 'chat' isn't monitored and may not be age appropriate.

Hah! Think I figured it out....press play, go on world's tab...it then suggests subscribing to a realm. At the top it says create new world..create your world with whatever settings you want and it's worked!

@TerryYackee that's helpful thanks. How is the chat thing? Is there a chat function and can you disable it?
