Currently looking for a new home. Having some challenges occur and would really appreciate being able to discuss with anyone with expertise or experience in this area.

I’m looking in the Glasgow area, not sure whether to give more specific information than that happy to do so by pm.

Partly it’s not knowing where to look, partly it’s not knowing how the process works, partly I think I’m being given the runaround/duff info on some things

Can anyone help?

I’m getting more and more confused and frustrated

I’d particularly like to converse with people who work in this area in glasgow as I’m getting a lot of conflicting information and been misled on some things.

Would also appreciate just general tips on how to handle everything.

Brain is melting down at times!

I’ve rented quite a bit, what sort of problems are you finding? It’s usually a case of finding a place, saying you’re interested, passing checks. The checks can feel really intrusive. You should be given a copy of um, what’s it called ‘yours rights as a tenant’ something like that. Your deposit should be protected in a recognised scheme within I think it’s 30 days. If not you can take landlord to court.
There are new regulations around short assured tenancies, so you only have to give a months notice at any stage of the tenancy. So you could move in & give notice the next day.
To find a place, decide your budget & hunt Rightmove. You can also look on eg Facebook marketplace & gumtree & there’s probably still the odd newsagent window. Do not give anyone cash upfront, it’s almost certainly a scam.

If you're struggling with which area to look at, I could help. What are your interests, do you have DC?

LettingsHelpNeeded · 25/01/2022 22:23

Problems are : viewings booked and then they cancel them VERY soon after I’ve booked it on one occasion less than an hour after I booked the viewing!

Lots of tenants aren’t allowing in person viewings due to Covid (which I totally get - what I don’t get is why advertise it until viewings are possible?) for me it’s not just the property that is important it’s the area, what are the neighbours like etc which is what you’re also assessing on a viewing

Been doing the rightmove thing HOPE I’m savvy enough to not get ripped off but I’m getting older now and feel out of touch with tech and how processes work etc. so I feel on the back foot!

@genericusername789 are you familiar with glasgow then? It’s not so much interests but I want somewhere that’s a nice friendly safe area, no dc at home they’re up and gone now, as I said I’m getting older now.

But if you’d be happy to help that’d be great. I don’t obviously want to give too specific details on which places here in the public bit but happy to do so by pm if that’s ok with you?

Oh thank you that would be so helpful.

I’m on my way to view somewhere now and yet again not a clue where I’m going.

I will send you a pm @genericusername789

@ClutterofStarlings would it be ok to pm you about something? Having a crisis of confidence somewhat related to my not knowing how the process works at the point of deciding whether to accept a tenancy or not

I live in a town outside of Glasgow and worked in the property industry for many years. Albeit, I've been out of that industry not for around 5 years so my knowledge won't be the most up to date.

Feel free to PM, hopefully I can help in some small way

LettingsHelpNeeded · 26/01/2022 18:03
