DBS check documents - help!

I'm due to start a new job soon in an educational setting. Not directly in contact with students day-to-day, but I need an enhanced DBS for the job.

I am struggling with this as I got married last year and have changed my surname, but only on my bank accounts and not on my passport or driving license as I was advised I didn't need to do this. The DBS ID checking guidelines say all documentation needs to be in my current name.

Does anyone know if this means I need to renew my driving license and passport before I can go ahead with the check? I don't have any other means of documentation on the list. I do have my marriage certificate somewhere but I can't find it. I don't know if this was signed in my new married name... Also I have a holiday booked in my maiden name (to match my passport) so I'll probably have to pay to change that too!

Can anyone help?

Get a certified copy of marriage certificate. Do you have bills, mortgage, bank statement, council tax in married name?

toomuchlaundry · 25/01/2022 13:57

Think you need to find your marriage certificate which I assume you needed when changing the name on your bank accounts

The educational setting will be the ones checking the documentation so ask them for advice.

You will have to have your marriage certificate and birth certificate at any rate.

I’ve had security clearance done recently with the reverse - keeping my maiden name for work, but my photo ID in my married name.

I just submitted a cover email with my marriage certificate and it was ok, but I’d confirm with the company who are processing the DBS to make sure.

You need your wedding certificate found, or a copy ordered.

What about bills? Any of those still in your maiden name? So they'd match the passport?

Talk to school about getting it all done in your passport name.

Thanks everyone. I have turned the house upside down recently for our marriage cert as we needed some information from it for my DH's job and I couldn't find it anywhere. It's in a 'safe place' which none of us can remember Envy

I am going in to see my new employer tomorrow so I will ask questions while I am there. Hoping I don't need to renew passport etc as I only renewed it in 2019!

Oh this is a good point actually, I only got around to changing my name on my main bank account and at university (graduated last year) but nowhere else. So maybe I can do it all in my maiden name? I do freelance work under my maiden name anyway so it's what I generally 'known' as. I just double barrelled my husbands surname.

If you have to renew your passport I would assume you would need marriage certificate for that too

Comefromaway · 25/01/2022 14:04

Just use your passport, birth certificate and driving licence all of which are in your maiden name then enter your married name in the other names I have been/am known by section

LIZS · 25/01/2022 14:05

Could you complete it in your maiden name otherwise?

caulkheaded · 25/01/2022 14:05

I have my passport in one name and my driving license in the other. I use one name for work and the other for non-work. Car is register in the driving license name.

purplewatermelons · 25/01/2022 14:05

Brill, thanks everyone. I didn't think about doing it all in my maiden name so I think that may be the answer Smile
