DD lost bag on train

DD left her sports bag behind on the train today whilst travelling to college. She put it in the overhead luggage rack then forgot it!! I've registered with missingx- has anyone ever got lost property back in this way?

If by any remote chance you were on the 9.15 Portsmouth to London Waterloo train this morning did you find it/hand it in?

Any other ways to find it that anyone can suggest? Would it be worth her travelling up to Waterloo today to got to the lost property office there on the off chance?

I had a DC leave a school sports bag behind on a train (Victoria to Brighton). We registered it as missing online and went to Clapham Junction lost property office to look for it and couldn’t find it. However, the following morning at school train time they made an announcement over the tannoy asking for DC and bag was returned. Fortunately bag and all contents were named.

I left my bag on a train just as it was going out of service (I got off at last stop and realised just as doors were shutting). It was a nice bag with an expensive gift for my mother’s 50th in it.

I immediately rang and reported it missing. Details of bag, contents, train times etc. I was even prepared to drive to the depot where the train was taken to get my bag - but they wouldn’t give me the details.

Assured me they would alert staff and call me back tomorrow. I called every day for 2 weeks but no one handed it in. Seems clear that one of the train employees must have stolen it.

I hope you’re luckier than I was.

You can probably phone or email Waterloo's lost property office. I've had to do this with buses and trams before.

I left a bag on a train once and went to the lost property, someone had handed it in. The person in front of me had had a bag handed in with hundreds of pounds of cash in, so there are some honest people out there.

SoupDragon · 25/01/2022 11:06

Ah. I see "missingX" is their email

emmarocks · 25/01/2022 11:08

Not sure if any of her stuff is named. Her stop was Havant so don't think it will make it back to college unfortunately. Just have to hope someone honest hands it in. Sorry your stuff got stolen @Toomuch2do hope she is as lucky as your DC @TimeforaGandT.

I once left my gym bag (clean clothes, makeup bag, watch, etc.) on a Jubilee line train from Stratford to Stanmore - I registered it as lost on the TFL lost property website. A week later I got a notification that it was there and I went to collect it from Baker Street Lost Property. Everything, including the watch, was in there!

LIZS · 25/01/2022 11:11

Check lost property at Waterloo tomorrow. Dh once left some documents on a train and retrieved them from station at end of the line a few days later.

Paperyfish · 25/01/2022 11:12

I once left a bag with clothes ( no big deal), my kindle ( old, could replace) and mr owly a owl ( eldest’s child beloved bedtime pal) on a bus in Cambridge. I was terrified we’d not get them back. I waited A full three hours for that bus to complete it’s circuit and get back to us. Bag was still on it with all in. Thank god. Get her to have a really good look in train if she does the same route home. May just be left there.

emmarocks · 25/01/2022 11:13

No way of directly contacting the lost property office at Waterloo as far as I can see @SoupDragon. There's a lost prpoerty email but they say it may take 7 days to get to the office so i expect that's what they'll say if I email them. So frustrating as the clothes andcshoes in there are probably about £250 to replace!

I will tell her to check train on way homewe might be as luck as you @Paperyfish!

I did the same and I called the train company. They took my details and got back to me the next day telling me where to go and collect it.

emmarocks · 25/01/2022 11:19

I can't call the train company they've outsourced their lost property to missing x, such a pain I wish I could actually speak to someone!

In our experience, when ds left his bag on the train, its better to go to Waterloo and Portsmouth and ask. DC left a bag on a train at Peterborough but it was kept at Ipswich for 7 days before being sent to a lost property office. We tried ringing both stations but Ipswich never answered. I think it cost £25 to have it couriered to him, but everything intact including a bottle of red wine

theremustonlybeone · 25/01/2022 11:51

You should be able to call lost property for southern western rail 0207 401 7861 which is in waterloo station, although they will likely advise you to do the online form.

Good Luck

theremustonlybeone · 25/01/2022 12:00

I am going to assume you have already followed the guidance on here?

www.southwesternrailway.com/contact-and-help/lost-property

they do have a main office number that you could call to get further advice

emmarocks · 25/01/2022 12:13

Thanks @theremustonlybeone I have followed the online guidance you linked. I'll call that number though, thanks so much for that. DD is going to check the train this afternoon in case it's thd same one and speak tk the stafc at Portsmouth. She's planning to go to Waterloo after college tomorrow as well. Fingers crossed.

My dad left a massive suitcase full of Christmas presents on a train once - he was having a right panic but I rang the train operators customer line, who put me on to their lost property - long story short the bag ended up in Hull where they said "how on earth did he lose this, it weighs more than the train"

Good luck getting it back, good things do happen!
