Quick Question about Passports

My teenage children have passports which are due to expire in February this year. As we’re not having a foreign holiday I don’t want to renew until next year. Is this a good idea or am I best to renew now in case it’s not as straightforward when I get to do it next year (because I’m applying from scratch as opposed to renewing)?

Just renewed two passports, one more than a year out of date, one just about to expire. Exactly the same process for both and toom the same amount of time (not counting the slight delay over the photo for one)

Just renewed my passport as I was running out of empty pages for visas or stamps. Did it online. So much easier than when I last did it. New passport delivered to door in 8 days. Excellent service.
