Not a TAAT but on the back of the strange disappearances. In the past it would have been simpler to bale on your life, drop off the radar, move, assume a new identity and start again.
How easy do you think it would be to do it in the age of technology ? How is it possible to do it today? Is it actually possible?

I would change my name by deedpoll then go a midnight flit.
I’d only change it legally so I can get a passport, job etc but I’d not tell anyone who didn’t need to know.

There have been a few high profile cases of people being caught - although usually because they were running away from a crime. Remember the John Darwin case - the canoeist who "disappeared" and was eventually caught and charged with life insurance fraud.
