People you've met along the way who you thought were really cool

Just thinking about a colleague who I worked with a few times a year. I haven't seen her for a long time, I think she might have left but oh how I admired her from afar. So cool, self assured, smiley, friendly, laid back but on the ball at the same time. Looked exactly like the singer Robyn. I wonder if she has any idea of the vibe she gives off.

Who have you met and admired? Makes me wonder what people think of me, I've always felt a bit of a nervous wreck really, the opposite of cool!

When my first born started school there was another mum who just reeked of cool
She dressed like a 50’s movie star-she just excluded glamour
She’ll never know how much i envied her

I worked with a woman about ten years ago - she was just stunning and amazing, spoke three languages fluently. She had the longest legs, flowing blond hair and the most beautiful smile. She was also kind, intelligent and funny.

She moved to another country a few years ago but we occasionally chat on messenger - in my head I still wonder why she bothered with little boring me!

My BFF has just left her husband of 20 years for a woman.
I was pretty surprised but I have since met the woman concerned and she is soooooo cool. DD says she’s like that slightly aloof instructor at PGL who you really want to impress! She has a brilliant job that DD is in awe of and she’s offered to mentor her and let her do work experience with her. I completely fan girl on her and even 13 year old DS will emerge from his room when she’s here.

Just to clarify I don’t necessarily condone BFFs behaviour and we are still friends with her ex too BUT this woman is just fab. Even DH (who is mates with the EXH) really likes her.

No one has ever thought me cool. Ever.

I did a course years and years ago - think Princes Trust and there was a woman (we were young women - v early 20s) who was very naturally beautiful, extremely smart, unbelievably creative and just all round cool and urban but somehow came off aristocratic.
Think Trust Fund baby without the trust fund (she was broke af at the time)
Anyway she ended up doing one of the early reality shows - not a daft one but a skill based like the apprentice but not that - and was on the TV, became a bit of a darling of the famous presenter etc etc.
I looked her up recently and she has a very nice career in media and journalism, not mainstream but creative and still kind of glitzy. Has some celeb friends and is still extremely attractive although now in her 40s. Also hosts a podcast of course.
So probably the coolest person I know from my younger days.

I don't think I'm cool at all - but I have been told by my daughter's friends that I am. Those of you that claim you aren't cool may well be surprised at the people that think you are!

A580Hojas · 21/01/2022 21:17

Various professional musicians - they are all super cool. No one else tbh.

GlumyGloomer · 22/01/2022 06:12

I think my friends are all cool, in different ways. They definitely don't see it though.
I think a former friend is probably the most conventionally cool person I've met. Even as a teen she was so effortlessly confident (and it helped that she was really pretty). The friendship eventually drifted though because once school wasn't keeping us together she always had better things to do and I got fed up of chasing her for meet ups. We're not in touch at all now, but I wonder how she's doing sometimes.

I work with a 70yo woman who is amazing. She's single after more than 2 marriages, she's done so much with her life, the stories she tells are fantastic, just so much life experience. She has so few fucks to give and she is also so so kind and generous. She's off for adventures every weekend, either on her how or with friends. She's definitely someone I'd like to aspire to be like but I'm definitely not that cool
