We Have a max budget of around 20k my partner has only ever paid monthly for his cars and never owned outright. we are looking for an automatic petrol car but undecided if we pay monthly get a bank loan or use all the savings. Also not sure what car to get I prefer a slightly higher up car due to bad car sickness but can compromise on this a little. So many options and I have no clue will hopefully go have a look at some cars on the weekend. Currently he has a bmw but he’s given a small monthly car allowance from work for it but he’s leaving so that will stop.

Depends on what type you like. I have always had fords. The one time I didn’t the car was awful. I currently have a Ford eco sport and I adore it. I’m up high but it is still a fairly small car. I love the screen that it has inside for audio etc. Will keep this one for as long as I can.

We have a Qashquai. I love it.
It’s now 11 years old and has everything I need. It’s high up, spacious and reliable

I like Mazdas, the sport nav model has everything loaded. My boss has the higher up one, 4 wheel drive, I have a more sporty number

Hell would freeze over before I took out a bank loan or drained all my savings to spend £20K on a car. I recommend that you get all the model recommendations from this thread, then go back enough years not to end up paying interest or wiping out your savings.

This. If you have £20k in savings, I'd plan to spend £10-15k on as good a car as you can get - smaller will be cheaper and plan to keep it for a good few years while replenishing your savings.

By the time it needs replacing, it won't owe you anything and there might be good scrappage deals to encourage you to change to a new electric car.

However, if you do higher mileages, it might be worth looking at going electric now, as the running cost saving between electric and an automatic petrol car can be substantial.

Skoda

Kodiaq, Karoq and Kamiq are all the SUV versions. Kodiak is probably a bit big, but I’ve had a Karoq, which is spacious enough for a family and now have a Kamiq. That’s the smallest of the three, but suits us.
