I've discovered BBC sounds... What would you recommend I listen to?

I generally enjoy documentaries, comedy, amongst other things.

I binge-listened Uncanny and am now in the middle of Battersea Poltergeist. Very very good!

emilyintheSE · 20/01/2022 20:24

For those of you who say Battersea Poltergeist, I live in battersea, if I listen to it, will I ever be able to sleep again?!

Justjoinedforthis · 20/01/2022 20:26

If you watched Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia, they have a podcast where they discuss each show on order, its very funny!
Infinite Monkey Cage is amazing too, science and comedy with Foxy Foxy Brian Coxy

Is The Reunion on there? It's not a podcast but they might be on BBC Sounds. A series bringing together people who lived through a momentous day together are interviewed together about it. All different subjects, some historical, some sad, some entertaining.

MrsMigginsCat · 20/01/2022 20:31

The Lady Vanishes about a woman in Australia who went missing without a trace whilst supposedly on a trip to the UK in 1997. Her daughter has been trying to get to the truth since then but has been failed badly by the NSW Police. Only now has she managed to get an inquest into her mother's presumed death/murder.

TooWicked · 20/01/2022 20:31

I like true crime podcasts…

Who killed Emma? (BBC)
The missing crypto queen (BBC)
I’m not a monster (BBC)
Catching Melanie’s killer (ITV)
No strings attached (ITV - that was was really good, about the guy who sabotaged his wife’s parachute and she survived!)

I can highly recommend all of the above.

Magnificentbeast · 20/01/2022 20:33

Elis James & John Robins
Parenting Hell - Josh & Rob
You're Dead to me
Newscast
Griefcast
Off Menu
British Scandal (Alice Levine & Matt Ford)
Elis & John's How do you Cope?
Woman's Hour

Not all on BBC Sounds and in no particular order. I have real trouble keeping up with them all. There's something for everyone!

Winnerwinnerveggiedinner · 20/01/2022 20:38

Tom Wrigglesworth’s hang ups is a gentle, heartwarming comedy.

Great thread! I rarely come across recommendations.

Happypootler · 20/01/2022 20:41

In terms of BBC podcasts there are some corkers: End of Days (about Waco), Death in Ice Valley, Missing Cryptoqueen and I am Not a Monster have been my favourites. I also like the In Our Time podcast.

True crime is my favourite genre and there is a great series from Australia at the moment called Shandee's Story. It's still unfolding now as they make it.

Blurp · 20/01/2022 20:42

Friday Night Comedy is good (it features different shows; currently it's The News Quiz, which I think is the best of the bunch (although I don't like the new presenter)).

Outside of BBC Sounds, Frank Skinner does a fabulous poetry podcast which I could listen to all day.

NorthernTights · 20/01/2022 20:43

Wheel of Misfortune on BBC is funny, gross and brilliant. Further afield You’re Wrong About is great.

Leah2005 · 20/01/2022 20:44

Fortunately is just the best

DrHildegardeLanstrom · 20/01/2022 21:02

If you like true crime then 'They walk among us' (not BBC)
Louis Theroux
Adam Buxton
The Bunker
Finding Ghislaine

BBC:
Girl Taken
Things Fell Apart
The First Time
Fake Heiress

southlondoner02 · 20/01/2022 21:03

On BBC Sounds recently I've enjoyed:
The Coming Storm about American politics,
Things Fell Apart - new Jon Ronson
Fortunately with Fi and Jane

From iTunes I like at the moment:

Sweet Bobby
Off Menu
Adam Buxton
Slow Burn series 6 - about the LA riots

SydneyCarton · 20/01/2022 21:10

Bad Women is excellent, it’s the podcast version of Hallie Rubenhold’s The Five, about the victims of Jack the Ripper. Hallie presents it. Also Crime Analyst, which deals with the Yorkshire Ripper murders and the case of Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

Crime Junkie is also good, and I like Once Upon A Crime for historic American cases that I hadn’t heard of before

Ornamentalcabbages · 20/01/2022 21:14

My Favorite Murder
No Such Thing As A Fish
My Dad Wrote A Porno
The Cryptid Factor

Quite an eclectic mix, I know 😂

seething1234 · 20/01/2022 21:18

Fairy Meadow - about a 3 year old who went missing in Australia years ago. Waiting for the next episode to be released

I Recently listened to:
Believe Her - excellent podcast
Carrie Lowe vs.
Suspect - brilliant podcast

I loved Shit Town
And My Dad Wrote a Porno
Things Fell Apart was good
But my go to Podcast is History of English - fascinating, soothing, it's my happy place.

EmmaH2022 · 21/01/2022 14:13
