What doorbell do I need?

Dh will be starting to travel overnight for work again soon.

I've always had this weird worry about what I would do if the doorbell rang in the middle of the night. Should I answer it? Should I look out the window, making it clear to the person that I'm at home and I'm a woman? Should I ignore it?
I'm assuming anyone ringing my bell in the middle of the night is not going to be good news.

This has never happened by the way, its just a weird thought now stuck in my brain.

So I need to work out what would make me feel better before he next goes away. We don't even have one of those wee someone things in the door, I guess that would be the first option.

I quite fancy a doorbell where i can see on my phone who's there. But would that make me paranoid? I don't want to be notified every time there's movement in my front garden, I don't want to feed my paranoia. I've never worried about that before.

So a sort of video intercom type thing?

I don't necessarily want it all the time though, I don't have a problem opening my door usually and am quite happy with our usual old fashioned doorbell. It's original to the house, brass and shiny. We've never needed to speak to delivery drivers while we're not at home or anything like that.

I think I want a removable video intercom for when dh is away overnight. Is there such a thing?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

We have a ring doorbell and I really like it for when I'm home on my own for a substantial period of time. You don't need to be notified every time there is movement, you can turn this off and just be notified when someone actually rings the bell. I like the extra comfort it gives me if someone rings the doorbell, I can look to see who it is via my phone and can choose whether or not to answer.

Also have the added bonus of being able to speak through it so if the postman turns up while you're out and about you can ask them to leave the parcel behind the gate etc etc 😂

We have a ring doorbell and it's not all that reliable, often by the time it notifies me there's someone there they have long gone.

It can take ages to connect too as it depends on the WiFi signal on my phone.

I regularly get to the local shop then a notification pops up to tell me there has been motion detected and when I look out was me 5 minutes earlier.

Only real benefit is that you can look back at the history so I can see who's been near the door.
