Local nursery or close to work?

Help! DH and I are trying to choose a nursery, it's for our first baby (she will be 1 when she goes but waiting lists are long).

Options are

A) Nursery attached to my work. Cheaper, nice enough but not fantastic. Work is a 30 minute commute from home.

B) Nursery approx a 20 min walk/5 minute drive from our house. Seems really really lovely and if all things were equal would be my choice. More expensive.

DH thinks itll be more convenient to have her in nursery close to me so if anything happens I'm round the corner. If she goes to the local one and I go into the office I wont be able to be there for at least 30 mins. HOWEVER I do work from home a lot (even before Covid) and so does he, plus my parents are local too and have said they can be around for emergencies. I'd also be later into work (after 9) if I chose the local one, although Dh can share drop offs and pick ups and there is an option for an earlier start.

Please could someone help make a decision for us? I feel out of my depth here! Thanks

Local to home is standard where I live.

Closer to home.
Why would you drive to the work nursery twice a day if you are working from home? And why isnt DH going to do half the sickness pickups in the middle of the day?

Local nursery - I chose work and now my DD will be starting school in August on her own. As where the kids who live in the area of the nursery are going to school together.

Thank you all so much for confirming what my gut was saying.

My DH will definitely do his fair share of nursery runs, he is very hands on Smile

I went for the one close to work, but that was mainly because it was the one I liked best and had personal recommendations from colleagues who’d also used it. It was convenient and meant DD and I did our public transport commute together so had more time just us two at the beginning and end of each day, which I still enjoy.

It’s a lot less convenient now that I no longer work in that particular office and mainly work from home, but I didn’t want to move her because she loves it and they’ve been brilliant through the pandemic. You’ve also got to think about future work opportunities and their likely location.

In your situation it sounds like the one near home might be the better fit.

Always close to home. Your baby doesn't need to do the commute when Ill or at all

I had pretty much identical circumstances and chose local to hone, changing my working hours by 30 minutes to accommodate drop off and pick up.

A I wanted the grandparents to be able to help in an emergency (they are 30 mins from hone, 1hr from work.
B the certainty of a 5pm danger nap if driving home with a tired baby
C I WFH once a week (and did before covid)

Very happy with decision, especially last year
