Ford Puma

Has anyone got a Ford Puma and would you recommend please. Will be getting it on a lease so it will be brand new. I like something with a bit of poke. Definitely auto though

I dont need a huge car these days and was also thinking of a Fiat 500 but that might be just too small.

I think the best you'll get with an auto is 155ps.

Username916 · 19/01/2022 18:09

I find it deceptively small.

Don’t get a 155bhp Puma then, it’s glacial. Nearly 9 seconds to 62!

I had one years ago, like 2004, and absolutely loved it - sporty and fast, gorgeous gear shift. No idea what the new ones are like though

I’m not convinced it was. They handled well but far from fast.

Tillymintpolo · 19/01/2022 20:17

I’ve got a new one, love it

EatSleepRantRepeat · 19/01/2022 20:22

I've had a fiat 500 before; lovely little car, very economical and drives well - just don't count on seating anyone in the back unless they sitting with their legs sideways! It's a two seater dressed up as a 4 seater really, but it is very nippy if you don't overload it with stuff. Don't go for a girly pastel colour though- that was my mistake and constantly had twats cutting me up on the road. Funnily enough, in my dark coloured 'masculine' looking car that hardly ever happens... Hmm

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 19/01/2022 20:26

I looked at the new ones when they first came out but I think they are all 1L engines and that put me off. I'm sticking with my mini cooper which is a 1.5L turbo engine and is great and nippy and I've had 2L turbo cars in previous years.

tanstaafl · 19/01/2022 20:27

If you want ‘poke’ get an electric car.
( imagine they’re still expensive on lease? )

HugeAckmansWife · 19/01/2022 22:06

I remember it as a nippy little thing but as I say, it was a while ago

delilahbucket · 19/01/2022 22:17

The engine size is irrelevant these days, they have smaller engines. Our focus is a 1.5L but with the speed of a 2L. It is 150bhp and it's got some real poke. It's a dream to drive, you can get up to speed quickly when you need to. The new Pumas are nippy. If it were big enough we'd have one.

UncomfortableBadger · 20/01/2022 07:09

I have one! Bought it last year and love it. Mine is the mild hybrid version but the ST Line sportier model. I average about 50-55mpg in eco mode.

My driving is mostly fast but twisty country lanes and motorways and it’s great for both, with loads of grip. The Mini Countryman I had before was dire and felt underpowered by comparison.

Not loads of space on the back seats for multiple adults but big enough for our Labrador to lollop comfortably. The mega box in the boot is handy too.

Can’t comment on the lease side of things as I bought outright - sorry!

UncomfortableBadger · 20/01/2022 07:10

Should add, mine isn’t auto.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 20/01/2022 07:22

I love mine, I have the ST Line eco boost model and it’s a joy to drive. It’s so nippy, really comfortable and for the first time in many years I am actually enjoying driving! My previous car was an i10, I needed something bigger and more luxurious for longer drives now I’m retired.

As you say, engine size is irrelevant. Your idea of real poke and mine are very different. I’d describe it as woeful and gutless.

Franklin12 · 21/01/2022 11:20

Thank you all, the reviews are good too but dare I say it looks a bit boring? Will be going to the Ford Garage over the weekend and also looking at a snazzy Fiesta.

Having said that I have been going into various different dealers who seem to have very little stock. Hopefully this new year will help move things along.

I believe the Puma is based on the Fiesta chassis.
We like our Puma , quiet, good spec, raised driving position.

Tillymintpolo · 21/01/2022 12:59

I had to wait 4 months for my puma

CormoranStrike · 21/01/2022 13:02

I’ve got a new Yaris automatic and I absolutely love it - never thought I’d say that about an automatic, but I rate it highly.

NeilTheBaby · 21/01/2022 13:03

I've got one and love it. Mine came with loads of extras too which I wouldn't have bought but are really handy like kicking to undo the boot.
I like the look of the fiesta but need enough space for camping hence the puma. The extra space under the boot is amazing.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 21/01/2022 13:05

Puma ST is the sporty one, it has 200bhp.

You'll be waiting for ages for one, although that's likely the case with almost any new car at the moment.

Also look at Hyundai Kona N. It's a bit more exciting to look at than the Puma, albeit in a slight boy-racer kind of way! Good car though.

Fiat do a 500X which is a crossover style thing, if that's better than the regular 500? They don't make a sporty one though.

MissMatty2hats · 21/01/2022 13:41

I love mine, it’s the most fun car to drive I’ve ever owned. It really doesn’t feel like a one litre engine, flies around country lanes in sport mode and is comfy on motorways - I never feel short of power when overtaking. I have mine on a three year lease plan, I’ve done this for the last 20 years and never had a problem. I’m definitely getting another Puma when this lease runs out.
