Odd Experience

I'm VERY sceptical about these things but interested in people's interpretation. Early this morning about 3am. I perceived that I was woken from my sleep. I looked ro my left to see a semi solid black shape run through my closed bedroom door. It was holding what looked like a sharp stick and was about 7 feet tall. There was an audible growl as it quickly moved round the end of the bed and it was aiming it's sharp stick at me holding it like a spear above its sorted of head. As it neared the corner it lost momentum when I mentally told it to back off. It fell to the floor in a sort of pile of dust. Obviously there was nothing there on checking. I felt scared at first but then went back to sleep. I'm not particularly stressed at the moment. My friend tells me it's a spiritual warning of my inner power ( don't think I believe that). Thoughts anyone?

Probably just a vivid dream but I'm interested in people's interpretation.

The Grim Reaper making a house call but due to his Sat Nav cocking up, he had the wrong address, hence his swift departure when you demonstrated with him.

You had a weird dream.

HappyDays40 · 19/01/2022 10:15

My interpretation is sleep paralysis/ vivid dream. But my interpretation and my friend's are wildly different. I'm just fascinated that people's interpretation is so subjective.

A sleep paralysis or hypnogogic hallucination. If you ever read the 'woo' threads on here it's amazing how many experiences happen in the middle of the night and/or when someone is in bed and woken up by their experience.

It is horrible though, I've had horrible things like that too, and am sometimes woken up by auditory hallucinations: screaming, dog barking, someone calling my name... but they're not really happening.

Years ago before I had children and was a single girl living on my own I would sometimes fall asleep on my sofa.

I would regularly dream that a noise had woke me up and I could picture two intruders and I would pretend in my dream state that I must fake being fast asleep so that they would come and take what they want and leave thinking that I was fast asleep and would not confront them.

However they would come over to me and one would place his hands under my legs and the other underneath the top half of my body and they would life me up.

I could actually feel myself being lifted up and it was always at this point I would actually wake up and momentarily feel that they were holding me and carrying me and then I would realise I was alone and laying on the sofa.

Gosh that is awful, that must be scarey. It all seems so real doesn't it.
@HPLikecraft I have often experienced sleep paralysis but never "seen" anything just this feeling of being unable to move and being watched by unseen eyes! It was the weirdest thing never had anything so vivid. I don't think being menopausal helps!

Ah, menopausal OP! Me too. It was only recently that I started getting these auditory hallucinations so I imagine that it must be a contributory factor.

Yes, visuals can be part of a sleep paralysis experience. The only one I ever had was as a student, aged 19 during a period of stress. I was visited by a handsome but angry incubus!

@Shapiro that sounds terrifying!
