Any good suggestions to make a 3 year old very happy on his birthday?

There will be presents, birthday cake and balloons but can anyone suggest anything else to make it special? Small token things rather than expensive ideas I mean!

Let him make some choices he doesn't normally get to make.

Our youngest turned 3 recently. His one request for the day was to 'watch Paw Patrol while eating cake'. When we got to that part of the day, he was SO delighted. He sat there with the most enormous smile and kept telling us all how happy he was. So maybe ask your DS what he would most like from the day? He might come back with something reasonable and even if it's something impossible, it might give you an idea of something you can do.

My DS loved a banner that said Happy Birthday and had a picture of a cake on it.

He also loved having pancakes for breakfast and being allowed to wear pyjamas until after lunchtime. And he loved being allowed to blow out his candles three times on his cake with pink icing.

Simple things!

Special breakfast? Pancakes are always a hit here, let him do his own toppings. I set the table the night before with party stuff for a birthday breakfast, he loves it - silly hats, tablecloth and napkins etc.

A helium balloon!

Lots of non helium balloons to kick /throw around the house?

Ask him what food he would like for breakfast and let him have whatever he says.

Twoweeksandcounting · 17/01/2022 22:17

A helium balloon inside a box, so when he opens the box, the balloon floats out. My daughter loved that!

My daughter loves waffle CBeebies and when she was 3 there's a lady nearby with a dog who looks just like waffle and I invited her for tea and cake with waffle which she absolutely loved and she bought dd a waffle dvd which we watched when "waffle"
Was with us

My DD who has just turned 4 still talks about the treasure hunt we did around the house for her 3rd birthday (it was mid lockdown so not much choice about what to do). Each clue had a chocolate coin.

Balloons. Lots and lots and lots of balloons. Then more balloons.

My kids love balloons, especially big helium balloons of their favourite characters

Pancakes or toast and Nutella for breakfast?

Play musical statues etc. living room disco

Lovely ideas, I love things like this!

Yes to balloons and choosing his own breakfast, which I know will be chocolate cake!!

Love the treasure hunt idea too, definitely going to do that!

This is amazing. She should turn it into a business. My kids would love a Waffle visit.

Cake for breakfast and a pinata full of sweets.

emmathedilemma · 18/01/2022 10:00

A ride on a train / bus / tram if it's something you don't normally do? My friend's son was a seriously cheap date when he came to visit at that age as stick him on the top deck of a double decker bus and he was happy all day!

Pancakes in the shape of his favourite character or initials.

SquigglePigs · 18/01/2022 15:07

My three year olds day was made with hot chocolate after breakfast - she's never allowed it with breakfast!

Yes it was fabulous and the lady who owns the waffle look a like was great and she was thrilled I asked her over and she's become a friend now and often texts us to meet them at the park the kids love it 😍

Disco light! We bought one last year, just a cheapy one from Amazon, and dd LOVES it. She’ll be 3 in spring and we’ll pop it on with some music while we have a party tea.

DukeofEarlGrey · 20/01/2022 22:09

Walking balloon standing outside his bedroom door in the morning?

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 20/01/2022 22:10

I’ve done a ‘burst through’ doorway before now…a roll of bright birthday wrapping paper taped over an open doorway in to the kitchen, sealing it up so they have to burst through to get to their special birthday breakfast 🥰 that was very sweet and exciting when they were little!
