Teenagers throwing eggs?

I popped out to the shops near my house in London yesterday and there were lots of broken eggs on the pavement. Later that day I read reports in the news about lots of teens throwing eggs at police etc. Is it a thing being spread on social media?

Teenagers have been throwing eggs since the 1990s when my kids were young....and there wasn't social media/smart phones then.....

When I was in my early 20s in the mid 1970s I had eggs thrown at me on two separate occasions by random youths in the naice outer London suburb I lived in. I don't expect it was the same ones both times as they were months, if not a year or two apart. First time, I was walking the dog at about 9.30 pm in the dark and a front door opposite opened and giggling youths spilled out of it, ran across the road and cracked an egg on the back of my head. I was quite a young 21 and very shocked upset (my dad went round next day and told their mother, who was appalled -they had left their son alone that evening and he had his friends round, apparently,).The second time was also in the dark, I was cycling home on a busy road and someone lobbed an egg at my back from a passing car. I wondered then how many more times I could expect it to happen and who were these people who bought perfectly good eggs and carried them about just to chuck them at random strangers. Luckily it hasn't happened again (yet).
