Is Pinterest just crap now?

I tried to start collecting information there to inspire me in our new house, but it doesn't feel very user friendly any more and I'm not finding any gems really, Google seems to be better and then saved pages into collections

Has Pinterest had its day?

I think so because adverts have taken over, or people making things professionally.

Shame, it used to be really useful.

Same as FB, they’re all so greedy for the ads they lose their target audience

AnotherMansCause · 16/01/2022 23:08

A lot of it does seem to be a store front for people's shops or blogs these days. It's definitely declined.

Holothane · 16/01/2022 23:09

I don’t bother with either now I just can’t be bothered.

floppybit · 16/01/2022 23:12

I don't like the fact it's starting to fill up with videos instead of images, trying to be like tic tok

Akire · 16/01/2022 23:27

The advert videos are so annoying. I like scroll while listening to music or radio on my phone but whenever I come across video it turns everything else off even if you don’t click it.

SirSamuelVimes · 16/01/2022 23:48

I'm so glad to read this thread, I thought I'd buggered up Pinterest somehow. It is definitely chasing the tick tock and Instagram market I think, so many videos all the time! And yes to loads of ads too.

Shame, I used to love it.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 17/01/2022 00:21

No it's rubbish, and feel frozen in time in 2012.

whyohwhyohwhyohwhywhy · 17/01/2022 06:53

Glad it is not just me!

Might just delete that one and be done with it. It is not simple any more to right click and add stuff, and to see what you have puf together.

I don't like video content at all either.

Justilou1 · 17/01/2022 06:54

I thought it was just me. Seems everything I search for has links to shady Ali Express-style sites. Fuck that noise.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 17/01/2022 06:58

Agree OP I'm moving house soon and wanted to start some boards with ideas. I've given up,too many ads, not enough individual user generated content any more.

Lattissima5 · 17/01/2022 07:06

I just use it to pin things I’ve seen elsewhere, it’s a good place to keep everything together so I can find them again.

SunflowersInTheShade · 17/01/2022 07:17

You can switch of the auto play for videos under privacy settings.
Also turn the sound off under settings.
But yes - rubbish now, just full of adds for shops.

screwthem · 17/01/2022 07:22

It has become totally unusable with ridiculous adverts every four or five pins or so along my timeline. I've given up on it.

toomuchfaster · 17/01/2022 07:29

I haven't used it for ages so I was toying with deleting it for the memory space! Does anyone know if there is a way to export boards onto my phone? I have a couple of lists I'd like to keep.

ShesComeUndone · 17/01/2022 07:30

It’s really hard to get your pins seen unless you pay. I expect that explains why all anyone sees is companies who can afford to promote their pins.

00100001 · 17/01/2022 07:32

I have up with it years ago, you just end up going round in circles trying to get to the actual content... escaping Pinterest can cel impossible!

I downloaded 'unpinterested' blocks the site from my search results Grin

Yaty · 17/01/2022 07:35

Yeah its rubbish now full of adverts and annoying blog posts. I'm looking at house inspo too and found Instagram better, saving pics in a bookmark.

HasaDigaEebowai · 17/01/2022 07:40

I’ve used it since almost the beginning but it’s now awful. Too many adds, the algorithms mean you only see stuff related to what you’ve already seen and the loud videos mean I can’t scroll in bed. No longer fit for purpose imo.

schnubbins · 17/01/2022 07:47

I was looking at it over the weekend for the first time in a long time.I hadn't gone near it for so long as it has changed so much .So many ads behind the pins that link you up to some tatty junk selling website.I often wonder what they actually are thinking by messing it up like that .I do look at my own boards for house inspiration though as many of the pins are from the time when Pinterest had really good varied visual content .

KloppsTeeth · 17/01/2022 07:55

I agree, it is awful now. I use it for all sorts of boards - home ideas, recipes, garden, but it is paid for adverts.

I still use it to pin things that I have got from elsewhere

EishetChayil · 17/01/2022 08:13

This happens with everything. Every damn thing is monetised now, to sell stuff. It's tiresome. Sometimes I just want to look at pretty and interesting things without being sold to. The internet now is the online equivalent of walking through a souk and being yelled at to look at wares.

Unsuremover · 17/01/2022 08:17

I thought it was just me. I used to be on Pinterest all the time, you had to pin when you saw something because it would disappear. Now I’ve had the same add for a god awful Christmas decoration for months. The beginning of the end was the millions of surveys and “did you find what you were looking for?” . Shame because I have no interest in tick-tock or Instagram so used it exclusively in terms of social media.

Beebumble2 · 17/01/2022 08:23

I still use it for inspiration, I ignore the adds, and always have the sound turned off anyway. I just usually save photos to my boards.

SirSamuelVimes · 17/01/2022 09:25

The internet now is the online equivalent of walking through a souk and being yelled at to look at wares.

Very true!

cannaethink · 17/01/2022 11:50

I’ve just turned auto play off, amazing! Thanks @SunflowersInTheShade
I still use it to search for outfit ideas, for example if I’ve got a top but can’t think what to wear it with.
