Hello, (I’m an old poster.. morning paper, soupdragon days.. penis beaker etc etc)
A couple of years ago my DS gained a place to attend a large scouting jamboree in Poland (EuroJam). All of his scouts raised the funds them selves by doing such activities as bingo, bag packing, raffles, tuckshops at camp, selling badges. They raised over 1.5k each.
However.. Covid happened and the jamboree was cancelled. They have now been told the county will be keeping the funds they raised to use as the county leaders see fit. The Explorer Scouts were not involved in this decision and we’re told this is what is happening.
Locally our Scouts want to donate the money they raised back into their local groups and district as that is where they raised the money. We feel that as local people donated to local Scouts it should stay local to help the future generation of scouts in our area and not be used 50miles away at a site where our local scouts will not benefit.
Does anyone know legally where we stand with trying to retrieve the money from the county and use it locally?
To give an estimate of costs.. approx 30 Scouts raised at least 1k each before covid hit.. and this was all paid to the county, who have now recovered the money from Poland. This is a lot of money for the county to be sitting on with no input from the scouts who raised it (despite being youth led!)
Anyone have any charity fundraising advice and wether the fundraisers can stipulate where the money should be spent as it can’t be returned to all of their donators!
