My requirements…

  • doesn’t take up too much space
  • under £100
  • versatile
  • not too faffy to use

I don’t have a preference as to bean/ground/pods so would welcome advice on the options too.

Thanks!

A Nespresso pod has 1g of aluminium. Even if I threw away every one of them It would the same wastage per month as if I put 2 coke cans (15g of aluminium) in the non recycling bin.

I think if you're putting the pods in the standard recycling bin you are throwing them away aren't you? Don't they have to be sent to a specialist recycler or have they changed that?

Another vote for a stove top but I would particularly go for a Bialetti because they are good quality. They are green (no wasteful pods) and make good coffee, so long as you buy good beans. And cheap!

There is a delonghi machine which retails at under £100. I have one. It's pretty good for the price imo. It take ground coffee or pods. I like to grind my own beans and use that. It also has a steamer wand which is surprisingly good. I work in a restaurant and spend a lot of time steaming milk and the model I have really isn't miles away from our amazing machine at work.

I use a filter coffee machine - much more environmentally friendly than pods and you get a full mug, the pods only seem to give you a half a cup.

I currently use this one: www.amazon.co.uk/Russell-Hobbs-20680-Buckingham-Machine/dp/B00KRGER1A/ref=sr_1_6?crid=IUN2YBKU1139&keywords=russell+hobbs+coffee+machine&sprefix=russell+%2Caps%2C295&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1642420312&sr=8-6

I usually buy ground coffee but also have a small gizmo to grind the beans which was only £20.

but if you use a filter coffee machine there is no waste at all, or you just have filter papers which go in the compost

I've seen the half price (£40) Tassimo machines in Sainsbury's this morning.

Turnitupto11 · 21/01/2022 09:11

Nespresso is much nicer than Tassimo. They offer a scheme where you get a machine for £1+ if you subscribe to a certain number of pods each month for a year I think.

Do pods coffee machines make lattes? Or do you need to buy a separate frothed?
If they do make lattes from pods are there no n dairy options?
