Midget gems to change name

To mini gems

Honestly would never have crossed my mind to think it was offensive but if people with dwarfism think it is, surely it’s right to change the name.

It’s still the same product. Just a different name

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats

I'm assuming that all MG Midgets will now have to be scrapped?
Beat me to it!

@Saucery

God, these threads are predictable. Edgelords spouting utter shite and 1001 ‘quips’ about ginger nuts. Hmm
Being ginger, it's not a "quip" or being an "edge lord".

Sadly, there are still really fucking stupid people in this world who think it's acceptable to have a go about red hair.

Hopefully they'll find a nice motorway to play on.

Why now? It just seems very late in the day to suddenly start campaigning for a new name, like 20/30 years too late. Has there been no previous objections? (I can't believe they won't have been.) Have M&S suddenly got a conscience? What's changed to suddenly make them want to rebrand? The cynic in me does not believe that this has been done for any noble reasons, but, hey, the end result is the same.

I have no feelings either way about the name of midget/mini gems.

It just infuriates me how idiotic people still are about comments towards redheads.

Don't really see how a sweet relates to a person but as a child I did eat my fair share of the sweets. As long as you can still buy the sweets I don't really care what they are called.

As the parent of a child with a significant disability, it also infuriates me that people are so idiotic about comments towards disabled children and adults.

I was listening to the radio the other day and the announcer played a record which was the signature tune of Dick Barton Special Agent which, sadly, was replaced by The Archers. He mentioned Dick and his friends Jock and Snowy. There was a third friend, Ginger, but he seems to have become the victim of political correctness, wokeism or whatever the latest term is. Isn't 'Dick' a bit dodgy nowadays?

Same.

As someone upthread said - being disabled is a protected characteristic, being a redhead isn't.

That's not to say that it's acceptable to make fun of people for their hair colour but it's really not the same as the discrimination faced by disabled people.
