Fog lights

We’ve had a couple of mornings of the worst fog for ages and driving to work I’ve noticed only one in about 20/30 cars had their fog lights on. Do people just not know about them or forget they have them? (No particular judgement from me if not, I didn’t notice I had a sunroof for about a year after I bought my car)

Its the opposite round here. People have them on with just a slight fog and they really dazzle you. The visible distance to require fog lights is tiny. If you feel safe to drive at 70mph you don't need fog lights!

I used to have to drive to work in the Vale of York which is a horrible fog pocket in the autumn/winter. This was in the days before automatic lights, so whatever was on or not was totally down to the driver. The thing which really gobsmacked me was the number people who'd put their sidelights on but not their actual headlights let alone their fog lamps. Sidelights are neither use nor ornament in fog.Confused

Because in most situations you don't need your fog lights. Only if the visibility is less than 100m. They can look light brake lights which is misleading.

A lot of people are saying about headlights, they're confusing them with daytime running lights; which is just the front lights, and does not affect the back. When they drive like that they are actually driving with the headlights off! Luckily I have auto lights on my car so I can't forget, but I can see how it could be easy to do.
