Had a fall.

Fell of my horse yesterday. All my weight when I fell pretty much went on right leg/hip area and then my head was the last thing to hit the ground. I am pretty sore today but my leg is getting worse. I can walk (although sore) but I can not lift my leg high at all. Even to get in and out the car I’m literally lifting my leg with my arms otherwise the pain is awful. Tried lifting my leg to get into my wellies after work and was nearly in tears! It obviously can’t be broken if I can walk on it (can it?) but has anyone got any tips to help with the pain apart from the obvious. Would going hospital be a bit OTT? Not really sure why I’m posting but god I am in pain!!!

Whether its fractured or not you will have soft tissue damage that may benefit from physio further down the line. Get it checked.

(And yes, I know someone who fractured her hip then drove to the dentist…)

GTAlogic · 10/01/2022 23:32

Even if it is muscle you should still have it checked.

I fell off a push bike a while ago and landed on my hand. I thought that because I could move it and it wasn't swollen it was fine and lived with it for a month before going to the hospital. It turned out to be broken and I ended up having to have a few weeks off work when I could least afford it when I could've just had a few days out.

@Christmas202

Get yourself a bottle of golden emu oil.it’s a brilliant healer.
I am curious to know how a oil resets broken bones Hmm

@Apocalyptichorsewoman I got back on her as well. Think it’s drilled into us to always get back on after a fall. Thing is at the time I felt fine which I guess is the adrenaline. Then when I got home I thought hmm something isn’t right! Must say though your fall sounds much worse but glad you are ok now!

The other thing is that strangely it hasn’t bruised much and isn’t swollen from what I can tell. To look at me I’m fine but on the inside I’m in real pain!

Are you going to get it checked out?

RampantIvy · 11/01/2022 07:19

Are you going to keep posting on here telling everyone how much pain you are in or are you actually going to seek professional medical advice?

Exactly
purplesequins · 11/01/2022 08:18

you need to get checked out.
hopefully it's 'just' soft tissue injury.

and after a good rest/ice/elevation get yourself to a (private) physio to get back on your feet.

TwinkleToeMatilda · 11/01/2022 09:21

@RampantIvy @HadEnoughOfBears thanks both for your replies. Sorry my updates are annoying you but I was simply saying how i am feeling. You will be glad to know I will go get it checked Smile

TwinkleToeMatilda please get checked out! Being able to get back on and ride immediately afterwards is no indication of lack of injury. A long time ago, one of my parents friends fell off, got back on and carried on as normal. Went to the doctor three days later as her neck was a bit sore to find out that she had actually broken her neck and one wrong jolt or mis-step would have resulted in paralysis. She was in a neck brace for weeks and considers herself very very lucky., This was 40 years ago and she is still riding daily aged 76!

DH had a fall two weeks ago - he tripped on the edge of a paving stone on the high street, went down on his knee. He was in pain but not so much that he couldn't drive himself to the minor injuries unit (which was closed bc of covid, so he went on to A&E) and walk in under his own steam, walk down the hall to radiology, etc. In and out in under 2 hours which was brilliant, he had prepared to wait for hours and brought snacks, a phone charger, etc. Turns out he had broken his fibula and had a lot of soft tissue damage to his ankle as well!

So glad you are getting it checked, it may be "just" soft tissue damage, or it could be something a lot more serious!

LIZS · 11/01/2022 09:30

Go to minor injuries. It might be soft tissue damage or fractured. Soft tissue damage can cause pain for months.

same

first hospital dismissed wrist pain (after a hard fall) as a sprain and refused to x-ray.

2 weeks later a different hospita; x-rayed it: green stick fracture that i had been walking around with

you don't know, until you know

Laserbird16 · 11/01/2022 10:11

I would also go get it checked. I fell two months ago and have been in a lot of pain. Turns out it is a labral tear (the cartilage in your hip socket). I was quite mobile initially and then the swelling set in so don't think because you can/could walk everything is ok. Best to be safe than sorry

Don’t be rude. OP posted early this morning, she can go to minor injuries when it opens.

People are allowed to complain. My whinging is legendary Smile

CassieJumped · 13/01/2022 10:01

Did you get checked over op?

TwinkleToeMatilda · 13/01/2022 11:41

Yep all good. Just sore but nothing serious which is good. Thanks all ☺️
