I can’t believe Wilko are closing stores! I thought they’d be in the strongest position. I find their online shopping presence be underwhelming.

@DGRossetti

I notice that Redditch is on the list.

From memory they were the second biggest store in the Kingfisher after Primark ? Debenhams, Marks have gone.

Funnily enough I used to live in Redditch. Not much is left there. Marks has gone, Debenhams, B&M has left. It’s quite a shame as Wilko is a good size there but the shopping centre is in a dire state

I always felt the Redditch one was too big for a Wilkos though. 3x the size of any other Wilkos but not actually selling any more / different stock.

I am a bit surprised Wilkos are having to close so many stores generally though. My local High Street is one of those run down High Streets full of charity shops, a couple of pawn brokers, loads of coffee shops, and the shops that have remained are the Home Bargains, B&M, PoundPlus, Poundshop, and Wilkos. We've lost WH Smiths and Boots this year, which isn't really surprising, as Wilko and Superdrug took all their trade some time ago.

Oh no I love wilko! They already closed my local one to turn it into a leisure centre, I don’t rate home bargains at all everyone raves about them but the one near me is tiny and rubbish? Maybe only the big ones are good as people rave about them so much but mine is a load of crap. B&m is good. But I love wilkos

I always get paint from wilko, not many places cheaper b&q very expensive and b&m and home bargains don’t sell paint (well my local ones don’t)

Our HB is new and enormous. It has a garden centre bit and a frozen food bit, I have certainly been in worse ones I know what you mean.

So glad our nearest wilko isn't on the closing list. I much prefer it to b&m or home bargains who only sell cheap tat.
Unfortunately we don't have a local store as we've moved recently but we always call in at the one at the nearest retail park when we're passing. It's not a good store though, the town centre ones seem better.

They had a brilliant sale before Xmas on garden stuff. Water butts for £5, planters for £2 etc.

I don't agree that B&M and Home Bargains 'only sell cheap tat'. They have all the usual brand names in there!
RedCandyApple · 10/01/2022 16:22

Yeh must depends on your home bargains, mine never sells the things I see other people talking about, it’s more like poundstrecher/Poundland was excited for it opening then just disappointed, I never go in there now

ALongHardWinter · 10/01/2022 17:39

Oh no! I hope my local one isn't among those closing.

TooMuchSugar22 · 10/01/2022 17:44

Our wilko lately has been shocking. No stock of anything other than toiletries and cleaning products etc
I only go in there if walking tk the little town with pushchair. But other than that I take car to bm or home bargains. Free parking plenty of stock
