I agree with PP saying pens and a note pad , your office probably will provide them but I like to keep one for work stuff ie things boss wants me to do , outline of meetings / note / minutes . and one for more personal but still work related ie Fred is head of x department but sara easier to get hold of / knows whats what phone number xxxx email xxx
acronyms ( my company uses loads that are not common parlance due to the type of work we do , I was baffled for the 1st week )

Coffee / tea / sugar milk sachets
a lunch that can be eaten cold , even if there is a microwave you may have to queue for it or it may stink of Mikes curry / fish /eggs

Snacks to keep you going , dried fruit / cereal bar / biscuits stuff that wont go off.

very basic 1st aid , pain killers , bonjella , plasters , savlon , lip balm tweezers I use a old hard glasses case , it is surprising. how much you can get in one and it wont take up much room in your draw / bag enough cash to get you home/ childs school in a cab in case your bus doesn't turn up / car breaks down / emergency
