To the laptop cabinet in the office. All our laptops are stored in there. Feel sick at having to admit that to boss tomorrow. Sad Looked everywhere in office/ home/ coat/ bag. I was the only one in yesterday and today so it's definitely me and not anyone else. Was told when I started (relatively recently) to protect key with my life because it's the only copy. Sad Sad Sad

I'm so glad you found it OP, and that you came back to update us!

If everyone knew it was the only key then why oh why didn’t one of your clever souls nip out & get copies cut? It’s a bit late now; you’ll just have to fess up & call a locksmith out & take better care of the new keys

gumball37 · 08/01/2022 00:10

Well that's just fucking stupid on their part!

PierrethePenis · 08/01/2022 00:44

Look at the lock it will have a number on it, usually 3 digits. You can use that number to order a new key from the cabinet manufacturer.

Things always get lost wherever I've worked. I've heard so many stories. Someone found my key inside the casing of an electric heater! It's their fault for not cutting a spare. It can be opened by a locksmith whatever happens. The only thing you need to work on is your confidence and expections of yourself and others. I can relate. I've really noticed how MANY people expect themselves to never make mistakes and view themselves as stupid. Really work on your self esteem as you'll end up taken advantage of - kindness is not a weakness but you need to know your worth. There's lots of Yourube and Tiktok videos on setting boundaries for example as it's ingrained in many of us growing up to be people pleasers. If you got the sack for that it would be outrageous and illegal!!! I really hope all got/gets sorted out ok :-)

The company will just get a locksmith in. Who will fix in 3 seconds. Then the key will turn up of course. Sounds like a circumstance waiting to happen. Would have to be a very draconian boss to think you should be punished! If you took a call from school around that point is it worth checking area where you took call and if mobile Phone where you put that afterwards? Worse things happen at sea!!!

There was an update from the OP, @sue20 - she found the key in her ds’s shoe. And she is going to make sure that some spares are cut!

siestaingsnake · 08/01/2022 19:57

I did this once. Turned out the key was in the pocket of whatever I had been wearing and was in the wash

Ha! Seems like if you can't locate a key or such, ask your DC if they were anywhere around you.
When DS was 3, I could not locate my single car key...looked everywhere...finally the thought came to me that DS might have been the reason said key was missing.. I thought back over what he'd been doing earlier in the morning...he'd been playing with a trumpet that was now neatly back in it's case...I opened the case, picked up the trumpet, and the keys dropped out of the bell...
Didnt know about St Anthony then, but I'm sure he would have been glad to help as he's done many times since.Xmas Smile
