So…been saving the latest 007 for a family xmas movie night - day to day lives here are mega busy so at weekends if we can all sit together to watch something it’ll be a comedy series or an hour episode of something. Kind of a big deal to sit to watch a whole long film… I’ve always been a mega Bond fan…knew all the films word for word (before I was 10😬……actually never let my kids watch those due to the terrible sexism🙈)….BUT, introduced them to the Pierce Brosnan films (slightly better!) and then the more recent ones. The whole point of JB is that he ALWAYS survives!! Loved the feisty ‘new’ 007 BUT the old one is never meant to be seen to actively expire …we all just move on to the new version knowing they’ve retired. I don’t know why I’m irrationally cross - I think I’m obv the minority that’s got bored of the new fashion of making everything unnecessarily different in an attempt to be ‘edgy’ - it’s actually just a bit desperate. Am I the only one who fed up?!!

I'm with you OP. I enjoyed the film as I was watching it but was really cross at the end when he died and it cast a shadow over it all.

I can't see how they can possibly pretend he survived that? If they do it will just seem daft. And I am not interested in seeing where it goes. It should only go to James Bond being James Bond. Nothing more, nothing less.

I didn’t like any of the ott romance, it felt like such a departure from the usuals vibe. Didn’t really get the beginning though and why he assumes it was her and then later regrets it - if he hadn’t bumped into her again he would never have tracked her down himself?

Mydogisagentleman · 03/01/2022 08:54

I can’t believe that I wasted four hours of my life on this, including the 45 minutes each way drive to the pictures.
The only good thing about it was the hours sleep I had during it

The James Bond franchise will continue. This was a goodbye to Craig...

I am curious to see how they will bring Bond back from the dead. Or they might just start with a completely different storyline rather than pick up from where this story ended.

That is the thing about an imaginary character. You can do whatever you want with them!

I love Bond and was really looking forward to seeing the new one, but I think it's probably my least liked out of the set. Daniel Craig seemed overwrought and wet throughout it. I very quickly got bored with Madeline's pouting and sulking and mumbling. Rami Malek's villain was a damp squib. The wee girl was adorable but the whole plotline was just a bit meh.

I really enjoyed Lashana Lynch although it bloody annoyed me when she seemed to just suddenly back down and give up the 007 designation, after being so feisty. I'd love to see her character develop as I thought she was the best thing in it.

It will be interesting to see where they take it from here. I'd like to see the character continue to grow - I love the Bond films because of their snapshots of life at the time; technology, society, fashion. The attitudes to women are problematic but it is satisfying to see the story arc develop and those attitudes start to change.

Blinkingbatshit · 03/01/2022 09:33

Why mess with the tried and tested set up so badly though?! Dc11 was persuaded to watch it on the basis that Bond ‘always survives’ and not much point to the franchise if they do🤷🏼‍♀️🙈! Glad I’m not the only one miffed!!

As an adventure film it was ok. As a JB film it was absolutely rubbish
It was just wrong
One film I'd happily never watch again

Littlewhiteballs · 03/01/2022 09:40

Oh, he dies in this one? I might watch it then Grin

I agree. I think they'll just reboot it, with a whole new cast (a pity as I love Ben Whishaw as Q and will miss Rory Kinnear), and carry on with no mention of what's happened in the Craig films. I'd love Paloma to come back with a bigger role; she was fantastic. But if my theory is right, they can't have her in the new Bond universe. Someone I know thinks that there's going to be a Bond TV series and the film was teeing her up for a role in it. Which would be better than nothing.
DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 03/01/2022 09:44

I really dislike Madeleine - there is no chemistry between her and Bond/Daniel. Eva Green was far and away the best Bond Girl of the Craig era. I’m supposed to believe that after 5 years of Bond thinking Swann has betrayed him, he sees a kid and then decides he was wrong all along and she was the love of his life?

I also didn’t rate the Lashana Lynch character. I felt bad for her as the wardrobe department clearly hate her - that white safari suit jacket she was wearing in the office was the least flattering thing ever.

Ginger1982 · 03/01/2022 09:44

I've always wondered how all the films all fit together time wise (if that's even possible!) Not a mention of the previous deceased Mrs Bond for example.

I don't think they do. Didn't the Bond actor change after Mrs Bond died? It just all starts again with each actor, except I guess with the Craig ones where the first one was basically the Bond origin story.
LuluBlakey1 · 03/01/2022 10:22

I really enjoyed it.

He will return- rebuilt.

Sideswiped · 03/01/2022 10:27

I liked it too. He was much more human in this film - because suddenly he had something to lose.
I was also shocked he died, but as soon as he was shot in the leg, I knew it was coming.

Hospedia · 03/01/2022 10:31

I also liked it and thought it was a fitting end for his particular character arc as he finally found a reason for doing what he does.

WeAreTheHeroes · 03/01/2022 10:52

The whole franchise has not been in chronological order with the books and short stories so what happened in this latest film is largely irrelevant for future releases. I liked the film and as Daniel Craig's first Bond film was Casino Royale, it was a fitting way to end his tenure.

Barbara Broccoli is on record as saying the next Bond will not be a woman.

Olliesocks · 03/01/2022 10:52

@IloveJudgeJudy

We watched right to the very end of the credits. BOND WILL BE BACK
This.
WeAreTheHeroes · 03/01/2022 10:55

If it were up to me, I'd remake the Roger Moore films because Bond has no depth in any of those.

MillicentSpinning · 03/01/2022 13:19

I was angry about it for days!!! First time we had been to the cinema in 2 years. Bought VIP seats and then... WTF? It's the deal. Bond doesn't die.

I'm getting angry again just thinking about it! And I saw it more than a month ago!

Blinkingbatshit · 03/01/2022 17:14

Ah @MillicentSpinning - I’m with you, totally agree the deal is that he ALWAYS survives. And no, putting Bond Will be Back at the end of the credits doesn’t cut it- it’s just lame writing.

I really liked it (and sobbed at the end!)

BigWoollyJumpers · 03/01/2022 17:31

It was brilliant. So many references to previous films, and Daniel Craig is the best Bond ever. The earlier Bonds were all too pretty and weak.

We all cried at the end.... inc. DH and both DD's.
