Has anyone got a freelander 2 who can tell me if they have any reliability issues with it? I’ve seen one for sale but I’m not sure whether to risk it as it’s quite high mileage (80k)

Is mileage a massive issue these days? I remember years ago it being an issue but with more modern types does it matter?

Alternatively if anyone can recommend something else that would be great:
Small budget of 6k
Prefer 4x4 as live rurally but not a must
Must have a really big boot as we have 3 dogs to shuttle and a pram to fit in. Currently have a tiguan which is too slightly too small but we can manage at a push with an SUV size.
Prefer not a people carrier style if possible!

I bet all of these JLR owners completely ignore their engine management warning light as they pop up so often, along with electrical faults, and EGR faults!

I had one of they Leon burgers when I was up in London recently. Got it from Paddington station before getting the train back home to Much Markle. Not as big as the burgers Tom's wife Mabel cooks for the August village festival.

I had mine for 6 months, it ate fuel like it was going out of fashion and prided itself on doing as low mpg as possible. It was a huge relief when the thermostat blew up.

I got myself a qashqai, which doesn't have as much of a road presence but it's more economical both fuel and mpg.

Dh has a freelander and loves it, mostly at 35mpg which is about as good as it gets. It's a year old though. You won't find a decent LR around 6k.

Be wary of mileage between 80 and 120k as it's usually due a cambelt change. Factor that into your budget too.

I've got a 10year old RAV4, it's done over 94,000miles & sailed through last 3 MOTs. Had to replace fuel injectors before Christmas but this cost nothing as it was covered by its warranty.
It has split rear seats, both of which fold completely flat making the boot space really big.
Toyota are now offering free full manufacturers warranty on all their cars up to 10years/100,000 miles if you have it serviced by them. Service is fixed priced & very reasonable.
I love this car, it's reliable not too big & great to drive.

Look for Honda CRV EX - it has all the toys including parking camera & heated leather seats...

Oh really? Might want to check that!

To be fair I think my tiguan only gets about 40mpg in real life Blush

Yup.... Course we do..... Just like trying to drive for 10 miles on a 0 tank...😂

I have a 67 Disco and can redo my own ad blue, my mates 65 F Pace has to go to LR to have it topped up as it needs the computer reset, every time it's gone in they "find a fault".

What about an estate car? Lots of them park in muddy fields and can get out fine. Especially if it’s only a few days a year?

We got a new Freelander a long time ago - it was a nightmare.
Recall for a problem with the water pump.
Electric back window stopped working.
Electric driver window stopped working.
Something else - which I can't remember - caused problems.
That was all in the space of a year, we got rid of it.

Hi Leonberger,
Just a quick photo of my boot which is probably a little small for two big dogs. The cage is big enough for two spaniel sized dogs Confused
