Auld lang syne also makes me cry I don't know why - There's something about it

It really does. I think because most years are so monumentally shit and the song is like a culmination of everything bad that has happened

@70isaLimitNotaTarget

Anyone watching the BBC SCotland ? Emily ?Sanchexz in a red/black coat ? What song was she performing ? Thanks
Read All About It was her song.
ErrolTheDragon · 01/01/2022 00:30

I think the fireworks have just stopped now. They began sporadically at 11pm, started in earnest at 11:55 and then continued.

...still the odd stray bang.
That's a lot of explosives for one not very large village.ConfusedGrin

Treeballarae · 01/01/2022 00:31

Emile Sande did a couple of her songs, the one just before the Bells was Next to Me

52andblue · 01/01/2022 00:33

Happy Hogmanay Mumsnet !
was anyone else's BBC countdown 1m late ? And the fireworks subtitles / announcements out of sync too ?

baffledbunny · 01/01/2022 00:34

I liked the lionnesses fireworks bit but couldn't work out whether they were fireworks or a light show?

Agree about Abba - what was that about?

Anyway happy new year all x

StormyCornishSeas · 01/01/2022 00:38

I liked the ABBA medley but as a west end musical choir couldn't they do something more west endy

The most annoying thing is the massive clock on Jules Holland isn't the right time. It was 11:50 for ages now it's 12:00.

StormyCornishSeas · 01/01/2022 00:38

Happy New Year everyone btw x

BellaChagall · 01/01/2022 00:41

Happy new year everyone. I've had a terrible year so am keeping my eyes fixed firmly forward. I wish everyone good health and happiness.

I think the Abba section was about promoting London theatre which has suffered hugely during the pandemic (just one of many industries I know...)

There's a lot of moaning on Mumsnet but for 10 minutes I felt proud and lucky to live in one of the greatest cities in the world. This is a great country and I'm privileged to live in a democracy. All the best for 2022 to us all.

ZenNudist · 01/01/2022 00:43

Happy new year vipers!

justwondering21 · 01/01/2022 00:44

I lost my Dad at the end of 2020. Then my Mum at the start of 2021.
I feel mentally I'm stuck in 2021. What a shit place to be stuck in.
Really hoping and praying we all have a better 2022!!
Happy New Year! 🥳

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 01/01/2022 00:45

After the worst year of my family's life, I would like to say 'see ya 2021, you eejit'
Hello 2022, happy new year to mumsnet! All your posts, witty replies have kept me very distracted when I have needed to escape from the god awful reality of watching my teen DD grieve her dads (my ex) suicide,
So to you crazy bunch, I am thankful!

So, I do have a question, who was that reciting the poem at the start of the fireworks? Am I being thick?

Pebbledashery · 01/01/2022 00:46

Pebbledashery · 01/01/2022 00:49

2021 has been a horrible year for me, battling my daughters father in the family court after leaving him in 2020. Watching him play the victim and cry crocodile tears like he was the one who had to flee and start his life again. Having to live with him terrorising me, scared he will kill me and always watching over my shoulder.
My only saving grace was my daughter who kept me going for.. She saved my life and gives me reason to live and to fight. I will never, ever stop fighting him.
2022 will bring more of the same, but I'm hopeful to find the strength to carry on as I have been.
Happy new year mumsnet xx

justwondering21 · 01/01/2022 00:51

@Pebbledashery hugs back to you x
Really hope things start to get better for you and your DD in 2022. Well done for fighting.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/01/2022 00:52

ThanksPebbledashery and others who've had a bad year. Here's hoping 2022 is better for you all.

Davros · 01/01/2022 00:53

Was that George The Poet? Only one I can think of

IncessantNameChanger · 01/01/2022 00:56

Happy new year. I need to make it a resolution to be here less this year

DerektheGoose · 01/01/2022 00:58

Hope 2022 is a happy and healthy year for all you lovely vipers 😘🍺🍸😈🐍

Dogmum40 · 01/01/2022 01:22

Happy new year mumsnet, I left my violent and abusive ex on the 1st Jan 2000 and never looked back! We had a mortgage but no kids but after being in a mental and physically abusive relationship I can let you know that it is possible to escape and there is light at the end of the dark lonely tunnel, you can do it! It took me 8 years but I managed it and back to present day who the hell was that bloke who run tonight’s new year/ sang with Kylie! I’m 42 and too old to know the latest stars of screen! Pets shop boys and Kylie I know, that other bloke not a clue 😆

Davros · 01/01/2022 10:43

Dogmum40 very well done, inspiring. Wishing you all the best.
That gurning bloke with Kylie (who is unable to gurn) is Ollie someone-or-other. He was in that TV drama about the era of AIDS. He's obviously talented but maybe a bit too enthusiastic?
