Was I TOO 'boundaried' with this chap

Well I've done it now but friend thinks I was over hasty.

Been chatting to a guy I met through Twitter. Seemed great...intelligent, great humour, great conversation.

After 2 to 3 hours of intense texting over two days he refused for the second time to tell me his name. His photo isn't on his profile picture.

I can't think of a good reason for that and it feels off, so rather than continue chatting to someone being mysterious, or getting into an argument, I blocked him.

It's very rare for me to connect with someone like this and he seemed keen on me (he has seen photos of me).

Was I too quick / firm in my boundaries?

How do you even know it was a man?

This is getting rather silly now. Thanks to the early posters who answered my initial question about boundaries. Have a good day all.

I feel the same as you @58bpm about what you look for. I've ended up fancying people in the past who I may well have overlooked but their personality, attitudes and intelligence made them really attractive.

@Juletide makes a good point in fairness. You have zero independent verification of who this person is. Think of all the internet romance scams that otherwise intelligent people have fallen for.

Interestingly, they've just remade Cyrano de Bergerac.

Juletide · 28/12/2021 08:02

I wasn't being silly, it was a genuine question. No name, no photo.

People get duped all the time.

RowsOfHolly · 28/12/2021 08:03

Ugh.

Communicating with someone using their own name while remaining anonymous is a horrible power play.

You did the right thing.

The number of men claiming to be in the intelligence service on OLD is incredible. Just living their boyhood fantasies I suppose but the odds of them being arseholes hiding something are far higher than the odds of them actually being a spy.
